Novak celebration

Novak is a bit of a genius I must say. He was incredibly calm throughout the whole match, almost like a completely different player. It was obviously part of his game plan because he knew the crowd would be all for Federer. I think this was one of the keys to his win, the calmness in every moment allowed him to play those big points better than Roger

Finally after years of cringeworthy affection seeking fake celebrations today Novak did it like he was doing 2011.Real FU to the crowd not acknowledging them for the second. He just needs to let it go and be the villain. They are not gonna like you no matter what.Embrace it.I hope this today was first step
They will like him better if he doesnt acknowledge them. Just like a woman

Not every celebration has to be the same. Jumping or lying in the ground are always done. The more subdued celebration can only be done by few who have been winning slam after slam. It shows how focused he is. I don't see it as underappreciation of the title or underestimate effort. More to do with a despise for the crowd. You should celebrate with the ones you love. Family.
Not a Novak fan but his reaction to winning this match was perfect.

That said, Marat safin’s slam celebrations are the gold standard re: subdued, especially considering his usual temperament !

Nadal is not liked in Paris...his middle finger is the best of all...just win it for eternity!!

Djokovic might adopt same tactic at Wimbledon.

Wimbkedon crowd was worse of any major. In new york its part of the tradition. Not wimbledon

That’s not true.

Djokovic finally found his inner jerk and embraced his annoyingness. Good, good.

I don’t blame him

Why does Novak think the crowd was particularly hostile to him ? Whoever Federer plays the crowd is always against them unless it’s like Nadal in Spain, Murray at Wimbledon etc. Nobody else makes such a big deal about it. I found his press conference really cringeworthy to use a well known word. I didn’t see anything unusual about the crowd support. Being a final it will be that much more passionate . Of course they were pro Federer, they always are and will be for as long as he carries on playing .They were very pro Roger in the Nadal semi too. At New York if Novak plays Roger in the final it will be even louder. Get over it and stop with the persecution complex.

You can see at the Ball he is completely and utterly exhausted. Can barely utter a sentence together, falling off his feet basically. Eyes glazed. I think mental effort might have been more draining than the physical aspect of this victory. You had Croatian commentators saying that it was insane how nasty the crowd was to him.(and they used to throw Serbian licence plate cars into the sea in Split!) Glad he didn't thank the audience because he had nothing to thank them for. He thanked Serbs watching him in Serbia.
