I have a question.
After the age of 32, what was the highest number of slams won by any player (male or female) in a full calendar year?
All of the players that I can remember (Navratilova, Evert, Agassi, Sampras, Serena, Federer, Rafa) got a touch slower, erratic and less able to last in long matches.
What Djokovic is at the age of 34 is strictly abnormal. Either he's a freak of nature or I don't know what this is.
It is NOT normal to play for a calendar Grand Slam at the age of 34...

Imagine Djokovic wins #20 and '21 beating Federer and then Nadal in the finals. Huge exclamation point to his quest of GOAThood with the Slam record, the CYGS, and defeating his greatest rivals to get it done.
I have very low expectations for Fed though. Think Nadal can still challenge Djokovic over the next two Majors tho.

Why is it unfortunate?
You say its not normal, but unlike the retired players you mentioned, they were not facing one of two worst generations of male players in history. Frankly, its a wonder why Djokovic did not win the Grand Slam years ago, when you consider the kind of players that are on tour, which will allow him--despite his age--to succeed. Whether that means he wins the Grand Slam this year, I'm not certain, but aside from a brainfart, injury, illness or another BS disqualification, who can stop him?

Wimbledon he has a good shot. Not sure about us open though. Novak is up and down at the event. I’d love more but right now us Novak fans are happy enough haha.

I won't be surprised if it happens, he will be a favorite in these hypothetical matches. But, yeah, would be like a fairy tale for him.
Don't think Nadal can challenge Djokovic at Wim/USO if he doesn't fix his serve.
I think he wont have enough time to recover for Wimby. 4 long matches in a row. He also called for a trainer for right wrist and arm before qf match. If it was 3 weeks, that would have been ok, but he must recover and fix his arm and also get used to grass in 14 days. He needs easy draw at the start to get into rhytm. Not to say that his 2nd serve was so bad during whole RG. I guess he didnt want to risk it, since strong 2nd serve wouldnt bring much advange on clay, but on grass its crucial.

I’m actually curious to see if he has any kind of let-down after this win. It was a huge mental effort in pretty much each of his last four matches, but especially the last two. He cooled off big-time after winning Roland Garros last time. It’s possible it happens again. On the other hand, it’s hard to envision anyone else winning Wimbledon at this point. Calendar slam definitely possible.

Depends on his mindset. The pressure of trying to complete the Grand Slam is HUGE and it's not something he was necessarily best prepared for or thinking deeply about when he last had a decent shot in 2016.
There's a reason it hasn't been done in 52 years. Just one bad match, one off day, one inspired opponent and it's all over. I suspect he will get closer this year than any before though! All he needs is to reach at least Round 4 at Wimbledon

I have Djokovic winning Wimbledon and then the US Open is anyone's game (except for Fed of course). Fed does have some kind of chance at Wimbledon, but it would be a small miracle if he wins. I don't see Rafa beating Novak in either Wimbledon or the US Open, but I would be surprised if Novak wins both nevertheless.

75% chance of winning Wimbledon and 50% chance of winning the USO equates to 37.5% of winning the CYGS. Wonder what the oddsmakers think as I’m sure you can lay a bet on that after today.

It'd be a monumental achievement and one that would permanently elevate him way beyond his contemporaries but i highly doubt his chances.
You have to favour him at Wimbledon but Olympic success has eluded him all his career and his USO final conversion rate is just bad. I think that's where he'll fall if he even gets that close.

I'm super confident for Wimbly as well but I have some concerns about the quick recovery and transition from clay, emotional letdown, and Novak's TB record. Djokovic was a monster in TBs the last few years and he's been aggressively mediocre this year. He won the biggest one but at the FO his TBs were disastrous. At W that's a big deal. That being said even his mediocre 2019 form will probably be good enough to win because of the ****ty grass field. Betting odds should have him as a Rafa at RG type favorite at W but there are a couple chinks in the armor.

As well as he's been playing this year, let's face it, if he couldn't pull it off in his absolute peak years of 2011 or 2015, it's pretty unlikely he'll do it this late in the game.

In 2011 and 2015 he didn't win the AO and the FO, the first prerequisites to completing the CYGS

I thought it was going to happen so many times in the future that it's hard to imagine it happening this year with the scheduling. There are too many good players ready to pounce. There is no margin for error. I hope he does.
It's actually quite frustrating he may not win USO, especially now Nadal is going to focus USO. Djokovic is more successful USO player and unfair Nadal has one more title. Nadal got lucky in his last two having cakewalk draws.
