Ode to the Wilson Sting Original Mid

When I first hit with my friends’ Sting… I thought to myself,,,i was like.... what is this newfound superbness???

It felt amazing… felt like I was meant to swing it… started swinging my racquet to the side, right before a shot just like Sampras… felt like I was almost channeling Sampras..

It felt soo amazing,… so days passed and I coudnt get her “it” out of my head…. So I decided to search for one online for myself…Got it in the mail and I loved the racquet and then I did some research and found out that it was the predecessor to the Wilson 6.0 , sooo naturally , I had to try the 6.0.;….bought a pair of Chinese from Mr. Craig Clark and began the ecstasy,…. It was amazing.. a more stable version of the Sting??? Tell me its aint so.. this cant be true can it? A Mercedes of a racquet. An even better version of the Sting???

The only down side was that I started feeling pain in my wrist from the somewhat harshness

And the story goes… eventually my obsession led me to the earlier version St Vincent and Chicagos and now when I go back to the China.. I go right back to the Chicago/Vincents.... they just don’t compare… the feel off the stringbed is just sooo completely radically different…. I don’t think I could ever go back to China after experiencing the Caribbean

AND SO STARTED MY RACQUET OBSESSION

I bought that frame for fun on the big auction site. It plays fairly heavy and more flexible compared to the PS85.

Of course the 6.0 was more stable than the Sting. Most rackets were. The Sting was Wilson's quick, cheap attempt at copying the Prince Graphite. Sorry to say, the Sting was a cheap racket and played like one.

I used one WAY back in school before the PS85 came out. Liked it but I also came to it from a Prince Pro :D

I've got one sitting around collecting dust...it's unstrung, grommets are excellent, probably 6.5 - 7/10 cosmetically but no cracks, AND an almost-new Fairway leather grip in burgundy (4 1/2)...

I have one because my Dad bought it a long time ago. Solid, not near as solid as the Prostaff 6.0. I agree w/ the cheap feeling. It is pretty forgiving. Recently my older bro bought the Sting II 85, & it has a lot better feeling, solidity, & control & isnt impossible to use like the prostaff 6.0 85.

edit: Actually my original sting isnt a mid, its 95.

i just wanted to clarify... i dont think the Chinese is a bad racquet... its a great racquet... i loved it the first time i played with it and thought it was amazing... i just think the chicago st vincents are soo much better...

its not that the Chinas are bad (they are great)

its more of a commentary on how excellent the st vincents are

Come on, Steve, tell us how you really feel about it!

I have conflicting memories of the Sting. It was one of those few rackets that crossed the line. They sold them in department stores and pro shops. I never owned one, but did hit with one. It actually hit pretty good. I remember John Lloyd used one for a while on tour.

There is a guy around here who still uses them. A buddy of his found him 5 brand new ones here recently...he's set for life.
