One measure of Federer's longevity is 11+ years between finals at 3 of the 4 Grand Slams
13 - Australian Open, 12 - Wimbledon, and 11 - US Open

Remarkably, only two other guys in the open era have done this at even one Grand Slam

Sampras - 12 - US Open
Agassi - 15 - US Open

Impressive, but Rosewall did it at them all...

19 - Australian Open (1953-1972)
16 - French Open (1953-1969)
20 - Wimbledon (1954-1974)
18 - US Open (1956-1974)

So be it.

Can't really compare the wooden racket serve-and-volley era to the physicality and length of calendar of the modern tennis game.

Nadal - 9 years from FO 2005 to FO 2014... thus far

Not comparable to a more competitive open era.

Exactly.

It's kind of amazing, though, when you think about tennis not changing fundamentally for about 100 years until the early 80s when you started seeing racquets no longer being made out of wood.
