Don't think there should be much of a problem. If he can contend well on grass conditions and low bouncing conditions then AO won't present any significant changes that he's not dealt with before. Looking forward to a fun tournament! AO is by far the most fun tournament to watch on TV. All the day matches and evening matches happening throughout the late evening and through the night here in Canada.

Could it be that he's just playing not as well so feels like something is wrong with the balls ?
He has also said such things before, like when Stan blew him off the court in Rome 2015 with MASSIVE groundstrokes him and Uncle Toni got upset that he couldn't chase them down and blamed the speed of the courts and that Tennis was becoming too fast... lol. Just because of one loss, not to mind the 99% of players that can't do that to Nadal.
With Nadal sometimes it's like if Superman faced him at Tennis and hit 500+ mph avg groundstrokes, Nadal will blame the courts/balls for not being able to chase them down and that "Tennis is becoming too fast and needs slowing down".

He’s just recognising that the ball is not the best for his playing style.

Rafa has always pretty straight down the line when discussing how external factors affect him and other players.

He did the same thing at RG 2020. He was honest about the conditions changing in a way that didn’t suit him, but he didn’t dwell on negative discussion. He just adjusted gradually through the two weeks of the tournament.

The balls are 100% horrible this year, don't know what they did with it, but it's totally different

From memory first batch of AO Dunlop balls weren't great, fluffed up really fast and was very slow. The second iteration which is what they've been using up until now was the closest to the Wilson AO ball, and was very good, my favourite by far

Up until the end of last year, they phased out this good batch, putting the rest on sale, the new box I received is total dog crap

Out of the can they are more dense, stay a bit stiffer for longer, but as soon as it fluffs up a bit, it produces a dead bounce, just dropping it from chest height on hard court it will bounce barely higher than your knees

Batista Agut was asked about whether the court suited his game after winning his match in Adelaide yesterday. He said it's the balls he likes not the court. Assuming they're using the same balls in Adelaide as Melbourne they might well be favouring flat hitters.

Yea but it's not always external. I feel like sometimes he's not ready to accept that he's just not good enough.
Like if in 2015 he's complaining that Tennis is too fast when grinders like himself are dominating the tour, it's hard for me to give much weight to that opinion.

Its not about the court surface, its the ball, and how long it spins for before it wears out and becomes unspinnable.
Nadal says these balls wear out quicker, so you can't get spin on your shots for as many games.

OK Nadal, OK.

I don't think I have seen any other player ever talk about it as much as he does. I guess it is all part of his OCD.

That might be a problem for him against some of the seeds in his draw.
He might need to adjust to the balls and hit big and flat even if it means higher error count.

Oh, I am sure he notices it, as would everyone else. They've all hit enough balls to know what the differences are. It just impacts his game more, because he wants more spin.
To me he can cope if he wants the spin for power shots but it's valid if he wants it for touch shots. He can hit flat very well though so I don't really feel bad for him.

I can't wait for this to start except for Alcaraz not being there because I was really interested to see how he followed up the USO victory.

I think we all wanted to see how he was going to follow that USO win up, a loss for the event. I think he will be ready to take the title in Paris in a few months though.

I could be wrong. But Federer and Djokovic never complained about the courts or the balls. Nadal complains constantly about them!
