Orthoscopic knee surgery...

I'm due to get this surgery in the coming days....I damaged my miniscus couple months ago the dr said it is fairly light surgery just 2 tubes going in your knee a camera and some kinda other instrument. After I hurt my knee I could still more or less play tennis still but couldn't really give it all 100%. My turning and sprinting was greatly hindered and my serving went out the window....I couldn't put that weight on my right knee during the starting motion. Anyways i was just wondering if anyone had a similar experience and had a surgery and how long was the recovery time. Thanks.

ARTHROscopic surgery, arthro- referring to a joint. No tennis for at least a month, then be aware you have less meniscus in your knee than you used to and may need to take it easier in the future. If your MRI showed any arthritis in the knee, the likelihood of recurrent problems is high.

I had one. Half of my meniscus has been removed.

It took me 4 weeks to walk normal, 8 weeks to my first hit after surgury, 12 weeks to play with full intense again..

Have to admit it could have been less, if I had some more hours of rest before start trying walking again and did some more fysio in the early weeks.

So my big advice, make sure you take enough rest (for the knee and wounds), but practice your upper legs muscle directly from the beginning to keep them strong. Make sure you dont loose too much muscle, otherwise starting walking will take longer etc..

Only half a meniscus left for me, but playing as intense before.. Even on indoors etc. Only thing which causes me some slight troubles, skiing.

Good luck.

I had one in August....and I am still in pain. Don't worry! I have very bad arthritis on top of it. Just like the post before me, work on your quad muscle to keep it strong. It is hard to build it back up. Good luck to you!

Wow so that seems like decent news...so in like 3 months I should be ok back to normal?? Just a few questions I'm 32 years old and from what the MRI showed I don't think I will need to have 1/2 of my miniscus removed at least I hope not... Are you around the same age??
Also during the injury did it feel like you could pretty much do most things normal except changing direction and intense movement sprinting, I found I couldn't really serve the weight transfer was really difficult. I have a heavy kick serve and I really reach back to get that spin I couldn't do that anymore...also serving and volleying was impossible that burst of excellaration was gone. Did you have similar symptoms?? Anyways thanks again for the great advice.

I was 33 at the time, now 35.

My meniscus snapped when I wanted to volley a ball just outside of my reach. Had to make one more step, but my foot did not move and there was the crack.. Loud and obvious. I was able to finish the match but the next day my knee was doubled in size..

Gave it some weeks rest, went on a holiday, hiked a lot and even played some tennis (just friendly), but was it was aching. Went to the docter etc.. It was obvious. MRI etc..

During the surgury I was there, meaning had this back injection, was really interesting to look in my own knee (via a screen::). And yes it was a real mass, but lucky for me the rest of the knee was sound.

Biggest advice, give the knee rest, but train you upper legs!!!
