I thought he'd officially retired years ago and was just bumming around the lower level tournaments every now and then to stay in shape.

These Lost generation retirements really are a long kiss goodnight............

Big respect on a long career and seeing it right through till the end.

Really tried to take it to the big guys during his heyday.

One of the last French guys to still have that killer instincts on court.

One of the biggest fighters I've ever seen on a tennis court, the amount of unbelievably dramatic matches and comebacks he was a participant in, was staggering. A shame he was on the losing side on most of them! Bye bye Mathieu...

Yeah, that was a poxy 4h37 in comparison! It was brutal sitting through it. It's one of the most unappreciated matches of the past 15 years. One of those to which the scoreline does absolutely no justice.
