Painting a racquet, suggestions for colors?

K, i've officially decided to order a Dunlop Maxply Mcenroe, paint it and get another one if all goes well. The only thing is i have no idea what colors to use or even where to get some quality paint. The only thing i know i want is SHINY, i'm very tired of looking at my matte black and orange 300G so something shiny would be nice. Any suggestions?

BTW, please only suggest a max of 2 COLORS for the ENTIRE RACQUET, and please EASY PATTERNS

I'd go with a single color with no design just to make the paint job simple. A glossy cherry red is always nice and distinctive. Midnight blue or dark green are also classy colors. Why don't you look at Wilson's W line of racquets for inspiration? Their cobalt blue and red storm racquets are nice looking.

Why don't you try the two-tone metallic spray paint, with a clear lacquer coating? You can get it at craft stores such as Michael's or Hobby Lobby. We painted our kid's wagon with it and it looks great, and has lasted a couple of years without chipping or peeling. The color we got was green/purple, but there were several other choices.

Just back with striping. You could pick up some silver car pin striping, you would be the first around her to do it.

I'm with SFrazeur, simple and good looking. Either that or Black outer hoop, shiny red Inner. Oh, like the ROK lol.

Or...you could paint the whole thing black. When your friends ask you what racquet your using, say you're not allowed to say.

If you are interested in the possibility of using striping here are some WILSON examples.

How about using the Maxply McEnroe as is and concentrate more on your game than the pj?

If your game sucks, no shiny, flashy pj is going to help.

No need to poop on 300Gkid's thread. Besides, using that logic, why do we even discuss racquets? Just buy yourself a Head PC 600 and then work hard to make yourself worthy of the stick.

One of the selling points of this racquet was that it was painted to look like McEnroe's wood racquet. I like the paint job in a retro way.

How does one go about painting a racquet and taking off the laquer finish?

My apologies to the OP. Go ahead and paint it fancy and shiny. Perhaps the new pj will help his serve 105%.

Have you never made something look nicer just for the sake of it? Ever bought a new shirt, ironed some pants or taken a shave to look better? Why do you need to post in this thread if you just want to be so negative? This guy asked for colours, he didn't ask "will it make my game better?". Personally, I'd play with any racuet at all if I thought it made me play better, I don't really care what it look like, but equally, I don't mind looking at nice things, and if I had the time, I'd give painting a frame a go for the fun & challenge!

SFrazuer... you just suggested Black & Red, Black & Yellow, Black & (Red & Yellow) :D. (Well, I know you suggested Silver, but maybe you see the joke based on the pictures). Jokes aside, practically thinking: the car-pinstriping would be very hard to apply to a curve neatly, and even harder to keep on when playing (unless you clear-coated a few times on top of it I guess).

My suggestion: all white. Every last little bit white. All white and all glossy. It'll help if you can get hold of white, light or clear grommets (which maybe an impossibility, but still...). If I ever splash the cash on a Vantage, mine will be whiter than Sunlight!

I would say the best colors would be Cherry Red and White or black. Cherry red on the outside of the racquet and in the head put White or black. White would look great

:-D Ha ha, the joke.... No, I do not see a joke.

As for the pin striping it comes in paint that is applied with a brush. As for the viability of him doing this, I am an idea man, reality not being a factor.

Well, I shall not explain the joke, because then it would be less funny. I mean, it wasn't a joke per se, but anyways...

Wouldn't "pin striping" that comes in paint that is applied with a brush....really just be called....paint? ;). Anyways... I'll be the 'reality man' to your ideas here, and say that any form of curved line.... tape, paint (even with attempted masking) will be very difficult to apply and have look in anyway professional. Starting with solid colour, or at most, a different hoop colour, will be a challenge enough, methinks...

Not saying that you shouldn't paint it, but you said you'd get another if it works out with the Dunlop. It might be tough to unload if you've painted it, but ultimately don't do well with it.

Anyway, I like the emerald green on the Prince NXG, but that frame is 50/50 green and silver. Also I'd love to see that classic burnt rusty orange finish you see on some Gretsch guitars painted on a racquet. Black? We've seen that one already.

I wonder if an auto paint shop could do a Fire Engine Red or Midnight Blue job for not a lot of dough. It wouldn't be hard to strip everything off the head and just tape the handle, would it? Hmmm... time to paint a racquet!

i was gonna paint one of my rackets chrome lol...so during the summer, i'd have an advantage :)

LOL indeed, I was just thinking about chrome this morning! I've met someone who chromes helmets, and I was thinking that maybe he could have a crack at a racquet.

I hadn't *at all* thought about the potential 'advantages' ;)

I would paint it ALL BLACK if I were you. It gives me the feeling that the frame is tougher. It also makes my 4 inches of lead tape at 3 and 9 clearer, LOL. But that's just me. Maybe you're not a fan of James Blake.

ok, right nows i'm thinking maybe a one color on the outside one on the inside thing. I was thinking maybe green and silver, maroon and gold or red and white.

Why don't you paint it all black and tell people you're using a Prince Expierimental?? How cool would they think you are! Ahuh!

i'd go kind of like an ncode but instead of white at 3 and 9 do black or dark grey, w/ black in the throat too

How about light green? Very few racquets use green. Red, yellow and black are to common. Blue on the x1 looked nice.
