Sure, I miss it a little, although I don't care about my ratios. If it's a choice, then bring back intelligent, respectful...and even insightful...discussions. (not sure about the "back" part.)

People are so used to showing what they agree to all the time, they dont understand that it really doesnt mean anything. They think instant agreement is something important and needed.
correct ...but i wanted that guy to answer it. :p

they think that a mere opinion - so without any reasoning - is valuable in any way.
in a political election that would be true, but not in a totally open discussion.
i don't blame people (the stupid masses) for it though. they just consume what was offered to them. it's too easy.

i use the Like button too sometimes. usually if somebody posts something funny or informative. fun/banter is not exactly something that needs special support on a tennis forum though, so i could also do without the Likes there. as for the informative stuff, unfortunately that is not what gets one many Likes ( ). but one can quote/re-post it (or elaborate analyses or interesting content etc) and that's even better eventually.

It's good for nothing really. It just gives you illusion of happy feelings. Also there's no point in living because you were born to die.
born to die? you surely don't mean that dying is the purpose. and if it's not, then you should try to act at least neutral in life.
if the Like feature is not a positive thing and not neutral, then it's bad.

and especially on here it's mostly abused as a weapon in fan wars.

on Twitter, the Like feature is kinda okay as that format has the individual as the center, right from the start.

(Twitter is close to useless for discussion in turn. it's something else.)

I also been using the like funtion to show support. But I know it doesnt really mean anything or has any impact on anything substantial.
Smileys something I also use, but I think its something we also got addicted to. I try in text messages and similar to not use smileys, but then I feel I am maybe considered boring or not enthusiastic. This can maybe also be linked to our growing need of being liked I feel like that, which is rather pathetic.
Our need to be liked I think can make us do many do things they later regret. So to remove smileys would be something good, at least for me. Its not easy to not use them when even state leaders and such use them, everybody do.

Function is ideally positive and used to express positive reaction but everything can be abused. Some will like what they genuinely like. Some will like dumb stuff, average stuff, smart stuff, funny stuff. Discussion comes mostly from discourse so it's not endangered by like feature.

Can also be he belongs to the biggest fan group and therefor gets more likes.
That itself says how the like function doesnt tell the full story. Just because something gets likes doesnt mean its better or more truthful than something that get less likes.

We also like things because we are partial beings and to show which group we belong to. Which is often not so good in the big picture. Makes the gap bigger in a world we should rather communicate and unify.
Well, Nadal has biggest fanbase worldwide, facebook and twitter confirm this, as does queue ratings at events ive been to. However on this site Federer has the most posters who support him that is undeniable.

Hum, I'm fine without it. I feel like a lot of members had the bad habit of posting just to be liked (in every sense of the term) and recognized instead of just being themselves. The worst aspect of it was the fact that people were able to encourage mean spirited posts. Someone would be excessively offensive and disrespectful then some members would like his post just because they happened to have the same fav player, they couldn't care less about hurting a person even if he didn't really deserve it. This place will definitely be more decent if this button is gone for good.

So TW decides to upgrade their "like" feature and then decides to take away both the upgrade AND the original "like" feature just because the upgrade led to more work for them. *rollseyes*

For me it did add very much to my sense of enjoyment. For instance, in the match threads often people say really witty and funny stuff that makes me roll, and I damn sure like clicking like on those occasions. It's interactive! It's great in Odds and Ends and in this general forum too. The poster above who says it can be used in a mean-spirited way has a point. It does happen and that's gross, but generally mean-spirited comments are made as well so, that is just going to happen. Again, I hope the button is brought back.

People seriously discussing how the number of likes tells something about their posting, and even the fact that they notice is one of the proofs that the like feature does much more damage than brings potential positives.

I liked being able to lazily agree with people by clicking the "Like" button. I didn't care much for the other reactions

Please bring it back

Cause for celebration. You're never gonna see me again.

Only joking. I was glad to know that the Superman vs Evil Superman fight was one of the last liked posts.

No, not a single person was discussing that. However it's rich coming from someone who can't post a sentence without an emoji.

I was about to ping the moderators and ask if I was on double secret probation because I couldn’t find the ‘like’.

Back, please.

The thumbs up could be a good alternative to show like, it just doesn't add up to your likes tally if this is important to ya'll.

Please bring the like button back. Without it I receive no other validation in life.

PLEASE

Dang it I wanted to Like this and I couldn’t!!!

I didn’t need the additional reactions, that added absolutely nothing but I miss the Like button. In absolutely no way should a dislike option be added.

I don't think the many other options that were recently added (love, dislike, lol) were needed, but they should keep the like. Very weird decision.

It's the timing that was so weird. Why update the forum and give us all those options, only to take them all away?
