Great post. I would like to add from my own point of view that I have liked posts even when I do not agree with the views expressed in them. If the post is written respectfully and clearly and/or with humour I can have no hesitation in pressing the like button.
That was exactly my point. ;) I often initally disagree with people but get won over, over time, when their logic makes sense. ;)

@speedysteve, Nice Lotii 7's/Caterhams? in your icon--they'll get you to tournaments fast, and hold a tennis bag in the boot--do they have boots?--lucky we're not golfers or we'ed have to forgo passengers for the clubs.
You'd be amazed at what you can carry in a 7.
120lt boot but the roll bar or cage rear struts steal some.
With a bit of padding you can carry 4 X wheels with slicks on the back strapped on for track work. Then I came to my senses and got a trailer when racing her..

The yellow one is me racing at Lydden Hill ;)

Most successful thread of all time in TTW. Hands down.

Was there an explanation from TTW Staff as to what the misuse of the likes was all about? I'd have thought they'd have much a better insight into that than regular posters.

The reaction ones were causing problems - probably the mad and laugh react being used in ways that made people report it.

The like games they mention id assume means mass spam liking. To staff I’d assume that goes against the spirit of the function.

That makes sense.

As to likes, now that they have brought it back, I wonder how are they are going to manage it in case of mass spam liking but perhaps they have a strategy in place or something.

Come on. You should report the original post primarily, not the like/reaction.
We should tell the criminal from the accomplice.

Nahhh. We were set up, bruh. Just TTW flexing a little muscle. They giveth, then taketh away...let the pot simmer...then giveth back (the like button). So now, they are loved again  , and to show our gratitude, we all.promise to behave. :happydevil:

All of this over who knows what. You would think that if the "like" button were causing problems to the extent it had to be removed, then TTW wouldn't have caved so easily.

The real problem is that the techies could not figure out some of the new programming for a week or more. Happens to me all the time!

We want to be sure they don't nix it again. ;)

I think the bottom line is that it took awhile for them to figure out how to turn likes back on without the other "reactions", which I was never a fan of.

same I don't miss the other reactions (though I admit to missing the :-D one a little bit but I can see why it can potentially cause moderation issues)

Well, TTW initial message was that the "like" button was being misused, so it would no longer be available.

Ii still dont know what the other "reactions" were?? The "Smilies"? I still have mine.

if you hovered over the like button, you had other options, laughing, hearts, upset, etc.

So it was a pure technical glitch, lamely disguised as a behavioural issue (staff's vague undefined "misuse" quip) in order to justify the unplanned protracted shutdown of the feature. Cute.

The normal response would be to demand the firing of the IT guy but I want him/her to do the opposite and join TW instead.

Well, here it is:
In this latest update, the reactions were expanded beyond the "like" option. This along with some issues we've had with the "likes" function being misused led to the decision to remove them. Initially we could not find where we could limit the reactions. We have since done our homework and have removed all reactions except the "like."

We have brought back the likes because they were popular with you, and they should be visible to you now. However, misuse of the "likes" function and/or reactions scores will lead to the removal from the option.

Thank you,
TW Staff
I'm assuming there were problems with the other "reactions", and they could not figure out at first how to turn them off without also turning off likes.

Can't understand how the "like" button can be "misused"? I press it when I like something, either the thought or the writing. Either you like something, you don't or you don't care-where's the beef? Sound's like a conspiracy theory.

The "like" function is used by most for what it was intended. When "liking" a post goes beyond a simple show of support or agreement, is when issues arise.

Thank you,
TW Staff
