Nadal said he wasn't injured after Roland Garros too. That's what classy players do, play down their injuries instead of claiming that phantom abdominal tears will take them out of the tourney before miraculously healing.

Rafa could have won the tournament had he not run in the one only player that had his number in that semi final.

Roger had nothing left in that Q final and even ate a last set bagel. I think he owned to the world in being truthful, especially since he was taking advantage of the COVID ranking.

Hurkacz has developed into a fine player. May win Wimbledon one day.

Back in June, Hurkacz was still a relative unknown. The QF loss to Hurkacz was considered an upset. Fed should have been up front about the injury then.

Everybody was already wondering why he appeared to give up in the 0-6 set.

It would not have taken away from Hurkacz's victory.

Everybody already knows Hurkacz is simply not good enough to bagel a healthy Fed at Wimbledon.

Yes, it was the truth. Feeling fine for him probably means pain but he can still play.

Nadal was in no shape to play a final.

The likely scenario is that he felt some discomfort during the match but it wasn't to the point of claiming an injury. Federer has an operated knee, and we don't know how confortable it feels normally. Maybe some pangs and aches are a regular occurence and Federer doesn't count them as something out of the ordinary. A serious inflammation would happen some time after the physical impact which is common for joint injuries. But I guess when you're only focused on disrespecting Federer, any logic that doesn't conclude he's lying goes out of the window.

The knee is as important a part to an athlete's body as any. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

This is the correct answer.

The code of tennis is that you don’t blame a loss on injury so that you don’t take away anything from your opponent’s win. Very simple.

Only when the manner in which you lost clearly points to a physical injury, and you're being asked by journalists expecting an honest answer.

In that case, lying is a terrible thing to do and totally wrong.

I have been taught since I was a kid that a real man never admits to injury and pain. That is not a lie but a sign of noble upbringing. The lie is when you say you’re injured and you’re not.

Admitting to an injury two months after the Hurkacz match does not take away from his win? Just tell the truth when everybody suspected an injury after the bagel. A Fed bagel at Wimbledon is practically a retirement.

Our Djoker tells the truth. A real man does. A real man does not say, "My body feels fine" when everybody on the planet suspects an injury.

Novak Djokovic is not sure about when and where he will play tennis again. The Serb is trying to recover from a shoulder injury that forced him to retire during his fourth round match at the US Open against Stan Wawrinka. The Belgrade native said: "I would like to tell when I will be back, but I do not really exactly know.

His body was actually fine, but he was so arrogantly salty from losing that he decided to have an operation in his perfectly healthy knee just to prove a point to somebody, although we're not sure who yet
To the moral victory guardians, I'd expect.

Bingo. I'm sure it's as simple as this.

He's an old man, so his body and knee in particular are always going to be sore and in pain after every match. He probably didn't know it was a real problem this time until he stopped playing for weeks and the pain still didn't go away.

Always funny seeing people sanctimoniously rummage around for the tiniest mistakes, indiscretions and embellished comments, while willfully oblivious of the multitude of more severe transgressions made by their more favoured perpetrators.
Imagine the life of the OP, no wonder such Fed-hate threads are non-stop.

"Mama, do I have permission to get on da computer today, pwease!?"

I think perhaps he was telling the truth at the time but has since had a setback. You can't always tell when you are in the middle of a tournament because of the adrenaline.

There's really no reason not to take him at his word. Posters on here thinking every player is some pathological liar is truly strange. His knee probably felt fine in the moment, but that doesn't mean it would continue to feel fine if he opted against surgery and decided to keep playing.

As someone who has had two knee operations and ongoing weakness on my right lateral meniscus I can honestly say to you that’s it’s always limiting and the limitation becomes normal. Then it gets worse - until you need an op. I’m sure Fed was “alright” as well as he could be but it doesn’t take a genius to see how much his movement has been restricted.

Exactly. It was probably a combination of not wanting to take away from Hurkacz's win and not actually feeling the full extent of the pain yet so soon after the match. He ended up understating the severity of the injury the same way Novak, in the moment, before getting any kind of real physical evaluation, vastly overstated the extent of his injury in Australia this year. He didn't lie either – he just communicated what he felt his body was trying to say to him.

Was not even trying in the third set. A healthy Fed does not get bagelled at Wimbledon. It does not happen. Hurkasz is simply not that good. Obviously something was wrong and Fed knew. There is no way a player does not know. Should have simply said, "Hurkasz played a great match. All credit to him. My knee felt terrible in the last set. Will miss the Olympics. Gonna get it checked out."

"My body feels just fine" is just an absurd statement in the face of that third set bagel.
He misled for his own purposes.

WRONG! Chances are Roger did not want to take away from Hurkacz's victory by claiming he was injured, when in reality, he really was.
If that was true, how can you say the assumption was WRONG?

It would be as @Raul_SJ said then. People lose their credibility by not telling the truth. Federer would have done that, no matter the motives behind it.

There was a time when concussion wasn't taken seriously, 'I just got my bell rung', etc. It happened to me once, even before I knew there was such a thing as concussion.

Fortunately, concussion is taken seriously nowadays and a player who is suspected to have a head injury is immediately substituted by the coaching team. Curiously, these players almost always claim they are alright and want to continue to play. But of course we don’t have such injuries in tennis, well, apart from a couple of incidents involving umpires and lines people.
