Poly string recommendation

Hi guys,

I am a 23 year old tennis player who has recently ventured into poly strings. I normally used head or wilson synthetic gut, strung at 58 lbs on my pro staff 90.

i recently used luxilon big banger original, and it was amazing. The spin i got was incredible. However i have been playing with for the past 3-4 days, and it seems to have lost its feel.

I'd like to mention that i strung it at 58 lbs, which i think i should have strung at around the 50 lbs mark.

Also these strings were pretty expensive.

so my questions are:

1:will stringing poly at lower tensions prolong its playability?
to at least 2 weeks

2:Should i be using poly?
I'm mainly a recreational player, but i do play local tournaments regularly.

3:what poly would you recommend that are cheaper?
i have access to the following polys which would be in my budget.
signum pro plasma pure 16l
signum pro hyperion 16l
signum pro plasma hextreme 17 and 16l
tecnifibre ruff code 16
tecnifibre black code 16
luxilon savage 16l

4:if not poly, what is a good alternative?

about my playing style. I'm a baseliner with a good forehand but an inconsistent backhand. but i hit with plenty of topspin, nothing extraordinary though.

thanks

Do you string yourself? If yes, you could buy some reels from Pro's Pro. They offer some good poly strings for around 40$ (200m reel), which is much less than what you pay for the big brands.

Of the strings you mentioned, I would suggest trying Signum Pro Poly Plasma (the original version) and Hyperion (round strings will be preferable for you as they last longer). However, I must add that few poly strings last much longer than 2 weeks of frequent play, as they lose their playability very quickly.

In a 90 square-inch racquet you can easily get longer playability and tension stability from a poly.

BBO is really one of the very first-generation of polyesters, and many of the strings you mention are also on the older side of things (sans Razor Code which isn't renowned for its tension stability).

If you want comparable strings to BBO with much greater tension stability I'd try -

Yonex Polytour HS 125
Solinco Outlast 17/16L
Solinco Revolution 17/16L
Solinco Tour Bite 17/16L
Dunlop Juice 16L

Enjoy :)

Thanks, ill try these

i can only find the solinco outlast though.

anyone know where to buy solinco strings in india?

Many of the Tourna Polys are very good also.

They might not be as cheap as the Pro's Pro but they are indeed cheaper than most polys.

I recommend BHBR, BHSR, and BHB7.

I think you'll be pleasantly shocked at the spin potential, control, tension stability and comfort of Solinco Outlast.

It's quite possibly the most underrated string on the market.

Yeah try any of the Solinco strings except Barb Wire which is shockingly uncomfortable and prone to breakage.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I'm going to order the solinco outlast and try it out.

Any recommendations for tension? I was thinking 50 lbs
I usually string my synthetic gut at 58

Thanks again

Head Lynx is a nice poly.

As for your tension question, you could go anywhere between 40 - 50 on your Pro Staff IMO. Up to you,

The Pro Staff 90 is actually a string breaker, on similar level as Pure Drive and Aeropro Drive. No kidding.

Well. I am trying to procure solinco strings. In the meantime I strung up my racket with luxilon ALU power at 50 lbs. This string is even better than bbo.

I have been playing a couple of days now and its feel is still pretty good.

Solinco is not easily available here.

Also what's the verdict on smooth vs shaped poly?

Nooo, you shouldn't use Alu strings. Now you will forever be dissatisfied with any string you use unless its gut/poly.

So far I don't believe shaped strings help.

Looking at strings in isolation, I would recommend Solinco Tourbite 16 hands down for spin/playability duration combo (there is always a trade off). I am not a big fan but people swear by Volkl Cyclone ($8/set) and you should try it.
I use an open pattern racket, however, and not familiar with ProStaff90.
If you like spin and something that lasts a while in a ProStaff, you may want to try gut mains/poly crosses (Wilson Nat gut 16/Mosquito bite).
