im interested in getting a reel of polyester strings...and am currently using prince synthetics w/ duraflex 16g...but i was wondering...should i stick w/ a 16g or go thinner w/ a 17g...im looking to string it for my mains, and string crosses w/ a cheaper synthetic string

I'd try an 18g. Hurricane, Poly Plasma, and BB Ace are very good choices at that gauge.

I will fourth the thinner gauge opinion. I would also agree that you should try some strings first. Tell us more about what you like for a string...

Try a set before buying a reel. Also are you a string breaker?
Yea I was thinking that as well but for some reason forgot to put it down in my post. I dunno why. That is a good idea though, as you don't want to be stuck with a reel of crap string that you can't use.

Bear in mind that most 17g polys are actually 16L. So using 18g polys, that are actually real 17g (i.e. Hurricane 18 = 1.20mm) would be more appropriate.

In addition to keeping the above in mind, you should also consider that poly is a stiff string and it will bite the ball if you have good mechanics. A jump to that thin a gauge might be overkill and hard to adjust if you haven't used it before... i say go for a 17g or so poly, they've got plenty of bite and plenty of durability...

There are a few good ones out there... If you want to go for cheap you can try the Tecnifibre polyspin, it's a solid performer, although i preferred Wilson's polylast to it by a long shot (they no longer have it)... Babolat's polymono was probably another close competitor, just about any cheap poly loses tension pretty quick, but i don't mind it and they all play fairly similar.
