Agree with this. That said I hear/see evidence at the club where I play that they lose sales on the Pure Strike to the v7 Blade and Gravity/Speed and now the Princes because of the lower flex ratings. There’s been shift that way in the last 12-24 months away from just lines of stiffer racquets. Kids leaving their PDs and APs for the Clash 100 too. Things are cyclical, like the softer polys now coming out, and Babolat ought to see that they need to give us a line that has a lower flex, more consumer choice like Wilson and Head cater for with their lines. My Storms are sublime so they’re very capable of making that kind of racquet.
Your Storms looks fantastic, btw.
Good post & I think that another softer flexier line won't hurt them.We have this same discussion here on the forum every now & then. That said, we all have our anecdotal evidences which are more base on a personal account & aren't really a true representation of the big picture.
For example, purely from anecdotal evidence, all the pro shop owners/managers I have chit chatted with said that while Clash 100 (& Gravity from Head as well) sold in very good numbers, Babolats still outsold them by 2 to 1,in some cases by an even higher margin.Rec crowd loves their Babs & everyone wants in on that.
As far as college tennis is concerned kids I have two kids who play Division I & a big majority of kids are still using Pure Drives & Pure Aeros (even some Strikes) & every team has more Babolats than any other brand that I have seen in our conference.I see a lot of Blades, no Clash all of last year (NCAA canceled all remaining matches for this season).
Blade has always been a good seller for Wilson & really popular on the college scene particularly. In the rec scene, the Clash 100 is def on top for Wilson & when it was launched I saw it in the hands of most club mixers & rec league players especially older ladies but then it sort of wore off too. All in the last year.Taking the throne from Babs is no easy ask because they have been basically ruling the tweener realm for a long long time now & I know friends who just went back to their Babs and Head Speeds (even the prince Phantom 100P) because they just didn't like how the new tech felt and couldn't get used to it.
From a marketing perspective so far like you said trend is for a softer offerings but I believe if Babolat felt they could sell more of a soft racquet (its a business at the end of the day afterall) they would come out with softer offerings as they indeed have the capacity like you said. But they haven't which tells me they are okay with how things are heading for them and they have crunched the numbers and done the math.Even the latest unreleased Pure Drive due to come out in a few months my Babolat rep tells me is 72 RA unstrung.Something tells me they will sell those like hot cakes too.
Anyway, of course, that is all just my experience & definitely a small exposure to the bigger picture.
And since its a pic thread, here is what i think to be a GOAT Dunlop racquet for everyones viewing pleasure
