Prince Recoil. Initial impressions.

TW has Recoil now on their website going for $25.00..yikes! BDE Rallye is cheaper than this. I predict in 6 months that Recoil will be down to a more reasonable $17 bucks . I can't see this string being very popular at the price it is now.

I had some money on a gift card that I hadn't used, so I ordered a set and should have it in a few days. I'll do a write up on my blog after I playtest it.

I got to hit with Prince Recoil in a (K) Six.One Tour 90 this morning, strung at 58 pounds on a constant pull machine, with 5 percent prestretch. I was very impressed with the feel and control on each of my shots except the serve. I've been using a poly, so a lot of my serves were going long with the Recoil, but I could probably adapt in a couple of days. Can't speculate about the longevity or tension maintenance, but it certainly felt good out of the box. YMMV.

Greg, how did recoil string up? was it easy to weave? Do you believe it is worth the $45.00 we will probably have to charge to sell it?

Heyy I felt very similar about this string the first day i tried it (yesterday on my Aerostorm @58 as well). I've been using poly hybirds, so the recoil felt really comfortable. The feel and control of these strings were pretty good IMO. I guess the coating (the stuff that makes the strings feel oily when stringing it up..jus an FYI: don't try to stencil on this stuff cause the ink jus slides right off) really works because i was getting a decent amount of spin off these strings and i never had to fix myy strings at all. once i got passed the different feel of the strings, i started hitting pretty good with it +i found it easier to guage touch shots, which was a pretty sweet bonus.

Day 2......well hmmmm. The coating seemed to come off a bit (the strings no longer feel oily on hitting surface, +strings have notched up and some slight fraying) which may account for the change in playability. I mighta been havin a bad day or somethin, but IMO i personally did not like the strings at all on day 2. I could hit alright with it but they jus didn feel right for some reason. Kinda hard to explain.... Well I plan to use this set until it breaks (probly a few weeks), hopefully i'll get back into the groove with it like on day1.

Prince Recoil info....but not really info

For what it is worth I was at the Gore-Tex factory last week for one of my Vendors who uses Gore-Tex in their products so I got 4 days of schooling from their engineers and marketing people...sort of a 101 on ePTFE..Gore has like 10,000 patents from this stuff....from artificial veins to sail materiels...it is quite the stuff...the properties are amazing...discovered by accident by the way....anyhoo, one of the engineers says to me, we just started making tennis strings....so I say, Hmmm..I play a little and he slaps a set of Recoil in my hands and says tell me how it plays.......I have yet to hit with it but I can tell you Gore doesn't get involved with flunky companies and they will generally not get involved with a new product unless it is class leading.....so, off of the promo Recoil Marketing Kit:

1 CD, some info but not enough detail on the construction of the string

The Micro Web technology made of ePTFE is the coating only...they do not explain who makes the Thermoplastic Core or the High tenacity filaments

They recommend stringing at 10lb less tension...as Jolly says: prolly not

I use alot of high end Multi's so I will give a little review fairly soon-

definetly, where about in CT?

and would you reccomend using recoil as your string?

Either for a trip to Mohegan, or passing through on my way to boston or points north.

Certainly give Recoil a shot if you are looking for poly-type benefits but don't really have the batspeed required to make it sing. Or if you like poly but it is too stiff/harsh feeling for you, or it is taking its toll on your arm.

I think it will be a great string for a lot of 3.5-4.5 players.

Here's my issue with this string: $20+ plus for a synthetic? Are you kidding me. i have access to a Babolat account as well as others but I usually stock up on string when the companies run deals like BOGO or B6G2, stuff like that.

It is just the fact that I can get Tonic+ for the same price as Recoil makes me a little hesitant. Gut is proven and a lot of my customers love gut as they are typically successful, mid40s-50s doctors, lawyers, etc. They love it because of its power, tension holding ability but most importantly comfort. and to most recreational players that play once or twice a week, gut will last them quite a while.

What I am saying is that this caters to a different type of player than gut does. They shouldn't be competing.

It is like saying for 20 grand I would rather have a pickup truck than a motorcycle.

Let's be honest. Recoil is specifically designed for women. Women hate adjusting their strings. String movement drives them batty. They break and chip nails popping the strings back into place. Most will pay the extra $$$ for the luxury of having strings that do not move. That's the target market. Women don;t want gut for the same price, they want strings that don't move. If it came in pink, all the better.

Stan...are you kidding me?!?!?
I'm a girl and don't mind putting my strings back in place. In fact it's great because i can get a quick break doing it and it makes me feel like i have major power and spin and if your a tennis player you shouldn't mind about nails...plus I HATE PINK. And honestly i wouldn't spend that much money on strings!!! that's very expensive...i rather would buy the prince syn gut w/ duraflex.

Maybe some girls might but i bet majority doesn't. Only people that probably move their strings like crazy would buy it.
It's not designed for women for sure.

I would think your 3.5-4.5 segment of men who currently use poly because they like the spin and no movement, but who don't really have the batspeed to bend the strings.

You know the guys, ones who have had poly in their racquet for two months.

Someone who has some strokes, has taken lessons, plays somewhat competitively, but just doesn't have ability to put the hurt on the ball that poly requires.

Yep, add the requisite creaky elbow and that's me... I've got a couple set on backorder. Primarily interested in hybrid with the aforementioned Tonic+ but will also try as a full set.

I just picked up a set and will try it in a week or so when I break my Alu/VS hybrid. I'll post my thoughts. I seem to fit squarely in the demographic JR identifies.

that is a ridiculous assumption. Prince made the string for those who want a synthetic string that does not move and are willing to pay a hefty price for it.

The information I have is that the string works based on the coating & they say that a hybird won't work as well. Of course they want to push the string.

I thought of that, but this string doesn't just appeal to people because of the Recoil technology, right?

The demo of the Speedport Pro White came with Recoil. I bought a Speedport Pro White and strung it with OG Micro 17g at 58 lbs (middle). I compared the two racquets hitting groundstrokes for about 40 minutes. I liked the OG Micro a bit better. Felt crisper. The recoil racquet felt a bit muted and more like poly, which is not necessarily bad, but I tend to like a bit more feedback at impact.

I cut out the OG Micro and restrung with ProSupex Maxim Touch 17g at 55 lbs. I compared the recoil racquet to the MaximTouch racquet for 30 minutes on the ball machine and a couple of dozen serves. (The ball machine had pretty new balls in it). I really liked the feel of the Maxim Touch string job much better than the recoil. Even more crisp (even though lower tension) and more feedback (feel and sound).

The recoil strings do really move back to position nicely. The other two syn guts did move around a bit. Like Jolly says, if you like the feel of Poly, yet are getting arm problems, you might very well like the recoil.

Next time, I think I will string this racquet with Big Ace 17g, but I won't have the demo with recoil to compare to anymore.

^^^ Gotta also take into consideration that the demo likely dropped tension and so was looser than if you had just strung it at mid tension as you did the others.

Very true, but I was the first one to use that demo (had to take the plastic off the handle), so even though it lost some tension due to time, there was no tension loss due to being used a bunch like many other demos that I get.

Of course I have no idea what they strung it at originally, but I'm guessing middle range, and I'm guessing on a constant pull machine (like mine).
