ProKennex grip shape

Is the ProKennex grip shape similar to the Head or Volkl grip (more rectangular), or more like the Wilson grip? Are the grips the same on all of their frames?

Thanks!

Definitely more like Head rectangular shape.

Last year I asked the same question here because I was interested in PK Black Ace 98. Most of them said that PK grip shape is similar to Wilson.

So I ordered 2 PK Black Ace 98 from TW Europe. But I was really disappointed when I discovered they weren't anything like that! Just very rectangular. :evil:

The PK Black Ace 98 is however a very nice soft flexible frame but I had to customize it by adding 12g of lead at 3 and 9 and by modifying the grip shape.

From rectangular to square:

Head -> Yonex -> PK -> Tecnifibre -> Babolat/Dunlop -> Wilson -> Prince

TF/Dunlop/Wilson are very close. PK isn't far behind. Head and Prince are way out at opposite ends.

Maybe the Euro version frames have different grip shapes? I've used PK frames for years...Laver Type C, Redondo, 5g, Ki5g, 5g PSE, Type R...and all had a Dunlop/Wilson shape.

Kevin,

Yes I am wondering this too.

Besides the confusion about the grip shape I never understood the specs of the PK Black Ace at TW USA.
They are very different from other European tennis sites.
When I asked TW Europe they mentioned a swingweight 288 (unstrung). That means 318 strung at its highest and I think my BA98 plays more like that as well.

I don't get this at all. Yonex is very round like Prince and Wilson.

I own the DNX9 and PK7g. Both have similar handles (higher aspect ratio, more rectangular).

Also have a ton of demos in the house right now. RDiS300 and Kblade 98 ... both are similar (lower aspect ratio, more square).

Not in any particular order, my take is:

Higher aspect ratio --> Head, Volkl/Becker (non-Attiva), PK
Lower aspect ratio --> Dunlop, Babolat, Yonex, Wilson, Volkl/Becker (Attiva)

i have a pk7g and wilson frame right here, both 1/4 grips, and measuring the actual bevels on the grip (not buttcap), they are almost identical. keep in mind that grip shape not only differs between brands, but also sometimes between grip sizes. a 1/4 prince is leaning towards rectangular, while a 3/8 prince is the squarest on the market, very frustrating for me... just more nonsense to consider before buying your next racquet ;).

Absolutely not. Yonex is much closer to the Head end of the spectrum than it is to Prince.

Incredibly, the pictures posted in this thread SHOW that it is clearly higher aspect ratio than Wilson, yet people don't even see it. Also, the Prince grip is NEARLY PERFECTLY SQUARE, it's not even close to Yonex. Maybe you guys are just looking at the buttcaps and have never actually held the grips in your hands??

Trust me, I've used both Yonex and Prince frames in the past 2 years and they were not even close. The transition from Yonex to Wilson (which I use now) was much easier.

I disagree as well, I'm very sensitive to grip shapes and I have a few yonexs n no way are they rectangular like head, they feel closer to dunlops or wilsons.

My take:

Head -> Volkl/Becker -> PK -> Babolat/Dunlop -> Wilson -> Prince

Ummm, I'm pretty sure I said basically the same thing, except without the Volkl, plus the Yonex.

Someone just said they thought Volkl was more rectangular than Head. So wouldn't it be like this?

Volkl/Becker -> Head -> PK -> Babolat/Dunlop -> Wilson -> Prince

or

Volkl/Becker/Head -> PK -> Babolat/Dunlop -> Wilson -> Prince

I own a yonex as well. It's closer to Wilson than head. Don't have any experience with prince though.

I own both Head and Yonex racquets and the stock grip shapes are no where even close. All but one of my Head frames have the pallets replaced to be Wilson shape and the Yonex grips are almost identical to the Wilson, Not rectangular at all. Sorry TonyB Yonex are not similar to Head.

I like the PK grip. For me it is inbeween the Wilson and the Head grip. Actually it might well be the grip shape I like most.

This should be a sticky. Would you say the Volkl would be left of the head?
