Hi guys, my dad recently bought me a macbook pro. I am very excited about this computer because I always wanted a macbook. .I am n00b at mac's because I have used PC my whole life. I seriously used a mac for the very first time when I opened my laptop. So far it is going great but I have a few questions about the computer

1. Why cant I remove icons from the desktop? :???:

2. Every time I right click on an icon, the "send file to" option doesn't pop up in the menu. Than I have to open up finder and go to the right folder and then drag it in. Is there any easier way of doing this?

3. Every time I download something from the internet, like say a pdf, I cant view it in the browser. I have to go to the downloads and run it from there. Is there an easier way of doing this?

Thanks for your help guys. :)

Send file to: are you talking of moving a file to another folder. Yes, that sure sucks. You can copy a file using that icon, and then paste it elsewhere.

I use the Terminal for all my work, not the GUI, so i rarely have this problem. Draggin files with a mouse is quite painful and often they drop in the wrong place. An awful way of doing work if you ask me.

There are a bunch of free programs you can use too. Such as Namely and Jumpcut.
Also try Notational Velocity.

Just google your questions. Best thing to do is just poke around your computer. Leopard is user friendly. Simple instructions and questions all the way to complicated ones can be found on google. If you had the problem chances are someone else has also had it.

Macs are different from PCs in many ways.

1 and 2. Aside from the Macintosh HD and connected devices, The DESKTOP is actually a folder. The icons you see are not aliases or shortcuts, but the actual file/drive/app/whatever. If you delete desktop icons, they will go to the trash. If you want to move it, one way is to drag it to the finder icon in the DOCK, wait for the finder to open, then drop it in the folder you want.

3. In Safari, If you click on a link that points to a .pdf, it should open in the browser. If you download it to your HD, the default app that will open it is Preview, which I actually prefer over Acrobat. But if you want to open something in your HD it in a browser, right click on the file > select "open with" > select the app.

Lifelong mac user (though on a Ubuntu PC currently) and they are the best once you get the hang of them. Used Vista for a few months, got sick of it, and just installed Ubuntu Linux

Yeah, pc's are like driving a first class jetliner, while macs-linux, is like driving a cargo plane full of bird **** out of hong kong.

lol. Take your BS to some other thread. I couldnt care less about your postion on the Mac vs PC debate. Oh and PCs arent exactly oil paintings that you make them out to be.
