Racquet for my Girlfriend

Hi all! So I've enjoyed playing tennis for awhile and last year I was able to get my girlfriend into tennis and she enjoys playing. We go once a week usually during summer time and hit the ball around. I want to get her a nicer racquet.

She currently just has a 15 dollar one from Walmart. I'm looking to upgrade by quite a bit. I demoed some racquets a month ago and she really liked the nicer racquets. Heres my question, are there any nicer purple racquets? That's her favorite color and im looking to spend around 100 to 150. But there is nothing in purple. I know color doesn't matter but I know she would really enjoy it. Can anybody help me out or point me in a different direction. Thanks!

If the color is key...
Have you thought about buying her a racquet that would work well for her...and then having it strung with -purple- string?

Didn't think about that. And color isn't KEY but just something id like. Shes not gonna go play tourneys or anything. But she did really like the nicer racquets and she played much better so something I was looking in to.

I would say your best bet is to get a white, silver or black racquet and accent it with purple strings and over grip. My girlfriend likes pink and got the blade lite which is black and pink from tw used for 40 and put pink strings and Overgrip with a hello kitty pink damp. She loves it.

I figure the more she likes her equipment the more she will want to play. So a win win situation.

Some ones she was also looking at were tecnifibre rebound series they are great racquets or the o3 white. Look for an even balance and not head heavy so it can she can still use as she improves. I added a little weight to my girlfriends racquet to make it more stable.

You mean she demoed some rackets right?

Does she want a racket that is good for her to play or does she just wants to have a racket because it is a nice color?

I wonder how old is your girlfriend, her position sounds very immature to me.

Nice racquets Tamiya, it's always good to see the old graphite frames. :)

it's a sad sad addiction, sparked off by this initial pile:-

more like you've got a bit to learn about species from Venus, matey

Nobody wondered why I gots purples... it ain't even *my* favourite colour

Don't know any female racquet geeks, they're all guys around here.

Conversely, the ladies I know who do play (competitively too) aren't fussed
about their sticks, mostly they just use hubby's hand-me-downs
as long as the grip is small enough - that's their usual only concern.
Happy to hit with 10yo nylon even when I offer to restring before comp.

Just keep the walmart racquet, go with a luxilon string at 30lbs...

If you can't find a purple racquet, look for a purple grip, or see if they offer strings in purple...

Nope, it actually works pretty well to restring the cheap flexible racquets with ELT. If you don't hit with much power it will do it for you. Plus it adds tons of spin super easy. If your GF isn't as good as you, you will get the ball back a lot more often and deeper than usual.

Worth a try, and only costs like $20.

If shes only playing with him for fun, I dont see the point in spending too much money on racquet.

just restring the cheapness, and add her favorite colors lmfao.

Buying new racquets is cool and all, but besides the color different, different strings will change the feel enough to play with a gf for fun.

and im not the one that likes purple lol

OK, I play tennis with a lot of women. I don't recall off the top of my head ever seeing a purple racquet, at least in the last 5 years or so. And women's racquets in general, tend not to be feminized outside of a grip or a dampener here and there. If you buy her a purple racquet... on the one hand, I'm sure she will appreciate the kind gesture, you are thinking of her, so bonus points++ there. But, on the other hand, she will have a racquet that is frou-frou and will stick out and will look kinda schoolgirlish. Maybe she is into that, idk, I'm definitely not.

My suggestion... 1) Buy her a nicer racquet for sure, I think she is due for an upgrade from the Walmart model (egads). Some of the O3 Princes I think make excellent beginner models that won't break the bank. Purple strings might be kind of fun, that's not a bad idea if you can find them. 2) Women like clothes, accessories, and shoes. And tennis is a great place to enjoy any or all three. Maybe slip in a gift certificate for a new outfit? Or a bag, like a backpack? You could pick it out yourself if you wanted. But, my thought is that is where she would most appreciate the girly aspect.

My advice is to listen to the women on this one man!!! Great advice from Emily and Tamiya! As far as racquet advice, try the clearance/sale sticks on TW. My son has said he wants to make the tennis team at school but he's a football player looking to finally take the game seriously. I'm going to get him a Prince Warrior MP or OS because it is (a) a great frame that has proven to be sort of timeless, and (b) only $69.99!!!

If you don't see the point in spending money to get her a new racket, you don't understand women.

not really what I meant though.

If she's still new she might not know what she likes yet, and he could end up buying something she will hate to use, but love to look at. It will make playing tennis a chore for her instead of fun.

I did that with the APD+ and it was a waste of $$. I ended up going back to my cheap racquet with new strings and grip, while I demoed racquets until I found the one I liked, which is actually a color I hate lol. Messing around with the cheap racquet made me more aware of what I wanted in a racquet when comparing specs and things I liked about it vs things I hated.
