Rafael Nadal's road to No. 1 in 2012: Reprise edition

Yep, we all to well remember ever single time it was game over for Nadal and how 1 match is what will decide it all:roll:

You only like the post because I say good things about Federer and bad things about Nadal LOL

If Djokovic beat Nadal in their first match of 2012, especially if it was another beatdown, I don't see how Nadal can overturn the h2h later on. I doubt he would magically find a solution mid-season when Novak is at his best.

The only way Nadal wins another slam is if he avoids Djokovic.

Can't see Nadal beating Djokovic at a slam anymore.

Well, Nadal leads 5-2 in slam meetings with Djokovic and Nadal leads 16-13 overall. That's some fortune-telling for you to predict Nadal not overturning the head2head he doesn't even trail in lol.

This is what I call a low percentage post. If Nadal (the guy with a 5-2 lead over Djokovic in slam meetings) beats Djokovic in a slam, even if Djokovic is badly injured etc. it makes you wrong. But base everything on one year, by all means. That's what people do every year. At the end of 2010, hardly anyone predicted Djokovic would win 3 slams in 2011. At the end of 2009 hardly anyone predicted Nadal would win 3 slams in 2010. And similar story at the end of 2008, when most people thought Nadal in 2009 would either win Roland Garros, Wimbledon or both, instead Federer won them both.

^^ Poor chaps. Noel beating them on court, and Zagor beating them on the internets. They have nowhere to run.

Lolvitis, good one. Easy to catch but very drug-resistant.

so should Nadal be the favorite even if he kept losing (until Djokovic leads the h2h obviously)?

whatever, keep living in 2010, mate

We are not in 2006-2010 when Nadal was able to beat Djokovic(specially in slams). He is Djokovic 2.0 now the player Nadal can't beat. Maybe Nadal can beat Djokovic outside of slams in the future. But I see the same situation brewing between Djokovic and Nadal as with Nadal and Federer. Since 2008 when Nadal became #1, Federer has not beaten Nadal in slams. Federer has beaten Nadal in Madrid and in the YEC(twice). Maybe Nadal beats Djokovic in some clay masters series but I doubt it will happen in a slam. If Djokovic reaches a slam final it is because he is healthy.

Federer wasn't the favorite heading into 2009, but he won 2 slams (and made all 4 slam finals).
Nadal wasn't the favorite heading into 2010, but he won 3 slams.

Right, just like Nadal was finished back in 2006, 2009, 2011, etc, etc. The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

I never said he's finished. The question is - is he happy being second best?

He has been second for years, matter of fact he makes a better second than first some times, finally you guys claim he always desires to be the underdog. Well, here it is LOL Make up your minds.

Well, you can't solve a bad match up and that's the problem with Nadal when facing Nole. Losing 6 straight times is one thing but all losses were on 3 different surfaces. He can only hope Fed take out Nole for him because Fed has the best chance against Nole.

Between being 2nd best player and desires to be an underdog is difference. Nadal wants to be the best player on the tour and anything less will be disappointing, especially during his prime. He's only got 102 weeks at #1 and I'm sure he wants more, not just winning more slams.

Since nobody can prove who the GOAT is (Laver's era confuses everything), the only thing that matters is winning the most slams. Nadal wins the most slams and he's got bragging rights over Federer for life. No bigger achievement than the total slams record. Weeks ranked number one don't hold a candle to the total slams record. Nadal grabs 3 slams this year and his clay/grass prowess will take care of the rest n coming years.

You have to understand that Fed fans are too stupid to understand your point.

I agree with this. I hope you can admit that if Nadal does not catch Fed then Fed has bragging rights over Nadal for life.

There is nothing to admit. Whoever has the most slams, has the most slams. There are no rankings or GOAT titles to attach to the simple fact of slam numbers. No words are required. 16-10.

You won't be so sarcastic after AO. Djoker will be closer to Nadal than Nadal will be to Fed. Watch for it.

Well with Nadal already injured before the start of the season, and now Federer also looking injured...Djokovic has got to have a smile on his face about now.

I'm pretty sure all of them are claiming injuries before AO. Really, it is all BS as usual, and we see all these people for what they really are. Just people, in the end no one knows what will happen. Rock, Paper, Scissors.

My goodness what an objective post from such a neutral poster.
