Reason why Djokovic is likely to end up higher than Fedal

I think in terms of skill level all 3 are reasonably matched with their own strengths and weaknesses. What separates Djokovic from the other 2 is that his mental strength is unparalleled. Have never seen him get nervous when close to the finish line and even today just refused to make any UEs towards the end. He might be prone to more lapses of concentration than Nadal in the middle of the match but when the finish line is close, he just never lets his grip get away.

The funny thing is, he WAS nervous today and found a way to fight through it and close it out.

Seems quite likely he takes on the mantle as Greatest of the Modern Era and also the Open Era
Not using the term “GOAT” because I don’t fully subscribe to the concept - though that might change if he completes the Grand Slam
Epic and thrilling end to this tournament! What a win, what a champion!

Yoga and meditation. And the philosophy that no matter what happens , what kind of situation you are in, you need to keep doing your work. He is completely irreverent of the score line and situation.

From all the matches past and present I have seen, I think Federer can hit the highest level of ceiling for a stretch, Nadal can lockdown a match and never give up.

But Djokovic combines best of both. He can do everything, he can defend all day, he can hit winners when asked, he can serve outstandingly, he can use the net decently.

And now at this stage , he has unlocked another level of mental fortitude.

Novak seemed flat from the semi final over the first hour or so, imo, but when he went two sets down, I think that took the pressure off him in his mind in a way and he worked his way back, point by point and game by game. He has the experience to do this and he knew over five sets, he can grind his way to victory in the end.

Good effort by Tsitsipas, he can win a Slam or two in the future.

Super easy to do today against a mug who forgot how to play tennis after being up 2-0. NID he was going to fail to close even when 2-0. The greatest weak era, none of the folks from 2004-07 would ever let this happen (Coria doesn’t count as he literally failed in 2004 and never came back). Joe covids only real competition was a guy almost 6 years older who took him to a Match point, whereas 22 year olds keep ****ting the bed.

blah blah blah blah, all Fed was up against was mugs in his golden years (and broken, aging ATGs who could barely walk)

Agree mentally Next Gen are pathetic. Losing a match is fine but leading by two sets and going flat in 3rd and 4th is just suicidal. They are not used to triumph in 5 sets.

For me more than his mental toughness it is his physicality, stamina and endurance. Outlasting players 10-12 years his junior over and over, as well as his generational contemporaries and making it look easy, not laborious. The guy simply does not get tired.
He is just training differently. It borders on lunacy when you look his body-mind training routine. He will explore stuff which many athletes don't wanna do. And I don't blame them. Just look how his brothers got messed up when trying same approach.

What's the big deal with what he's doing? You really think yoga and veganism are the explanation? I mean what's unique about his routine that other athletes aren't trying?

No that's not that. His lifestyle how he lives how he interacts with nature...Its very weird new age thing almost like a cult. If you listen these new biohacking fitness gurus Djokovic is pretty much following what they are doing

I really don't buy that for one second, frankly. It's 50% genetics, 25% routine and 25% sheer will if anything. Mindfulness training doesn't allow you to have the best stamina on tour at age 34.

Do you know why he always, not sometimes, but always, makes fewer mistakes than his opponents at crucial moments? Because his mental concentration is better than anyone else! When he concentrates better, he's likely to make fewer mistakes. And when he makes a mistake, he just lets it roll off and not let it affect his level of play.

During the change-overs today, when he just sat and stared blankly ahead, he was really meditating, and trying to keep concentration and focus!

Well all that will be decided in next few months. Absolutely game on now.

No, it's more like game over! Where do Federer and Nadal find Slam wins? Djokovic can find them at all 4.

Federer and Nadal are unlikely to beat him anywhere. And the youngsters are not strong, physically but especially mentally, to beat him yet!

Can you explain?

Hmm. Weren't you the one creating threads about how he lost because he's too old now, won't ever win a slam again, should retire etc?

Won't bother searching for it to link here...
Yes. I still think all that applies but never say never. My juices are flowing now. Im all uo for Wimbledon. If Nadal.feels the same then he is capable of anything.
I am not predicting anything. Simply saying game on. To the End.

He gets tired, he just gets it out of the way in the first couple sets so he can be fit as a fiddle at the end of the match. Genius.

I do love the pendulum swings in the tennis world, I have to say. As an illustrative example:

If Nadal had won this year's French.
Fans: "I can see him winning the next 5 French Opens"
When Nadal lost at this year's French. Fans: "I can see him retiring next year, he might have one more title in him"
