I'm going to have Computer/Robotic Assisted Total Knee Replacement surgery on Monday (May 1st). The doctor is supposed to be one of the best in the Carolinas so I'm pretty excited about that!
He recommends that I use a device called the ROMTech Portable Connect system - it almost looks like a recumbent bike except it gives video instructions, has devices attached to your legs to measure range of motion, collects data, automatically adjust resistance as well as positioning, and is delivered to your home for 6 weeks of use. Unfortunately I won't know if my insurance is going to cover it until the day of surgery. If they don't it's going to be $29.95 a day out of pocket.
So I basically want to be prepared with other options in case my insurance doesn't approve the device, because $1257.90 seems like a lot - hopefully there are other options if insurance won't cover it.
To those who have had total knee replacement surgery, what "in home" devices helped you get that range of motion and strength back?
I have in home physical therapy for the first two weeks and then will go to an orthopedic center for the rest of physical therapy.
Any other advice you can give on making the recovery process better, quicker, less painful?
The only part I'm truly worried about is that I have to go on blood thinners for two weeks after the surgery because I was on them a couple years ago for a DVT blood clot in the other leg. Doc said because of the blood thinners there will be more swelling which means more pain and a longer recovery time. Better than getting another blood clot though.
Thanks for any advice you can give!
