Rublev made it to the quarters of the 2017 US open, defeating WT finaliats Goffin and Dimitrov on the way. There's an old thread on him titled "i stake my Roubles on Rublev" where there's lots of talk about him. It looked like the first big step in his progression.
However in that quarter final he looked alarmingly out of his depth when facing Nadal, he has basically disappeared since. There's been no notable results to speak of, no improvement in his game, nothing. To think he was ranked far above Tsitsipas after that US open run, their careers have since taken totally opposite paths.
