Review of the Youtek prestige mid.

So I have been able to hit with the youtek prestige mid. I currently use the Prince rebel 95 and have used the microgel prestige mid before that. First thing that really stood out about this racket is the amazing paintjob, it really is a beautiful racket. Another thing that stood out is that it hit a bit stiff. Maybe I just got use to the plushness of the rebel but I don't remember the microgel prestige to hit as stiff. It could also be that the youtek was strung with sonic pro at a low tension but shouldn't that make the frame softer? Haha. So here's my review of it in terms of groundstrokes, volleys, and serves. I currently do not have any picture but promise to update this thread ASAP with pictures.

Groundstrokes:So this racket has a bit more pop than the microgel. As I said earlier it is a bit stiffer so it might appeal to a bit more players or push away players use to the soft plush feeling of all the previous prestige mids. Since the racket is so thin it is really maneuverable and swings through the air fairly easily. My favorite shot with this prestige is the double handed backhanded because of the way it is weighted it doesn't require a large backswing just turn and rotate does the trick. Overall it hits like a tad bit stiffer Microgel prestige mid.
Update: Played a bit more with it and it really reminds me of the I. Prestige mid. But it's just easier to play with. Great groundstroke frame.

Volleys: I didn't get to hit many volleys with this frame but the added stiffness made it easier to volley. Just stick it out and step it has tons of punch and stick. Great volleying stick since it is very maneuverable. Generally if you have good volleying form it will reward you. But that's the case with every frame. Haha.

Update: The racket is very maneuverable which makes it great for quick hands at net but playing more with it today made me realize that it was missing that UMPH on volleys to put the ball away. Setting the racket face and moving to it was not enough to put the ball away, it seemed like the ball stayed on the strings and didn't go anywhere.

Serve: We all know that prestiges are serving sticks. The racket shoots off flat bombs, the kicker not so much, but the first serve is a great thing with this racket. The way it swings through the air makes it easy to pronate and snap your wrist for a nice flat trajectory.
Update: Played a couple tie breakers with this racket today and the second serve was jumping off the court more so than with my Exo rebel. Great great great serving stick.

In the end, this racket is NOT much of an update from the microgel prestige mid. If anything it feels a bit stiffer. Head could have possibly considered making stiffer sticks to conform to the new trend of stiffer frames for the baseline bashing game nowadays. If you want to save money don't switch to this, but it's tempting considering the beautiful paint job and workmanship put into this frame. I'm gonna give it a couple more days of hitting and I will try to update this thread with my OPINIONS and pictures as soon as possible. Happy hitting forum!
Update: PICTURES!

UPDATE: I HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH THIS RACKET and am convinced that the d30 inside the racket really works. Stiff when needed for service returns and soft when needed for lobs and drop shots. AMAZING.

ci2ca,

Good review, not to hear more about it n what you said reflects what some of my other friends have said about it too.

Feels a bit stiff n not as plush as the iprestiges n older prestige. Perhaps the stiffness takes away a bit of feel too.

This should be the real "Prestige" as the design is far more luxurious than the MG candy cane paintjob. See the shiny golden Prestige and Head word and the red classical Prestige inside the racket head. Anyway wanna find out how it performs with the d3o inside.

I agree, the paintjob is the best part about this racket. BUT there is no gold on the racket FORTUNATELY. Haha.

Hey, I wanna ask something...

1) How is the stiffness compared to the n6.1 95?
2) Is the handle still as short as the MG Prestige? Wouldn't it be harder to do a double back-hander?

Thanks

It looks like they brought back the flat throat like the FXP Prestige, sweet.

What? The throat bridge has been flat on all of the Midsize Prestige except the i.Prestige Mid. The throat bridge on the YT Prestige MIDPLUS has grooves just like the MG Prestige MidPlus.

Oops, the photos cic2a provided were dark and I'm on a netbook so I didn't see the throat grooves, sorry. Take back my original statement. The FXP prestige didn't have the throat grooves though if recall, right?

vsbabolat, you sir are 'thee' prestige expert. my humble apologies :) .
I cant remember if the FXP Prestige MP I had, had those grooves too. Never played with the mid version to that racquet neither. Mabye someone can answer both questions for me.

Thanks clearing up the confusion. The FXP Prestige MP and FXP Prestige Mid did not have the grooves.

Thanks for the review and updates.

What's the balance like? Just approximates. Thanks.

Umm, I can't really comment on balance since I'm not to keen on racket specs besides headsize, string pattern, and weight. Anything else like balance, swingweight, etc I try not to pay attention to BUT it really does play like stiffer
Microgel prestige mid. So I'm guessing the balance is the same.

Sorry, I can't comment on the stiffness compared to the n6.1 95 because I've never played with that frame. It's a weird feeling. During short court when I'm just spinning the ball to my partner the racket feels like a noodle but when we start moving back and hitting with a bit more pace it feels fairly stiff. Maybe this d30 gimmick is real? Maybe it's the placebo effect. In regard to the handle length, I believe it is the same...But I believe the mid has always had a tad bit of a longer handle than the MP so it's quite safe for a 2 handed backhand.

D30 is no gimmick...it actually works. I'm not saying it bc head reps me, but because you can actually feel the difference when playing with any of the head racquets....its weird at first, but you get used to it.

hmmm....there should be another review that wasnt based on the sonic plastic crap.

Might change some opinions here...:???:

Despite playing with the crappy sonic pro the frame still felt great, just imagine sticking something better in it, how it would play after that.

I am normally a wilson fan, but I'm deciding to dump my KPS for this stick. I got to demo this racket from my coach for about 3 days and it is just great. If you can supply your own power and you're looking for alot of control then this is the racket for you. The YT prestige mid also has amazing feeling, much better than the microgel prestige mid IMO. Also, I was serving much better than i do with my KPS 88, which is really surprising. Lastly volleys on this racket is really fun. It really gave me enough confidence to do some powerful volleys and some crazy angled ones. All in all...great racket ^_^

I haven't tried a BLX, but I am assuming from the reviews that it plays similar to the tour 90. I've played with the YT prestige mid and the tour 90 side by side. First off, they seemed to have the same head size...it was weird..since head claims that the prestige is 93" and the tour 90 is 90"...anyway I played a lot better with the prestige mid...hard to explain why..but i just played more consistently and smarter with the YT prestige.

BTW I don't get why people hate sonic pro. It has pretty good feel and really good durability. I mean my coach cut that string out and put Revenge in it...but still....not bad strings.

Anyway I hope this helped

OP, great review, thanks! However it does add to the confusion as to which one is closer to the original PC600. Some appear to have the view that the newer Youtek Prestige is closer to the PC600 than the Microgel Prestige, but your review states that the Youtek feels "stiffer". and you advise against changing from the Microgel. I guess in the end we all have to demo ourselves and make up our own minds.
