Roland Garros Final Four Predictions

I am. Don't worry about the prize, we'll work it out later. For now, let's just make predictions for the love of the game.

You're all saying Canas.....but i'm going all out to say that Monfils will beat him first round.

Monfils? Not enough experience, he also recently got beat by Roddick in a "competitive" exhibition match.

Other tough first round mathces will be:

Llodra vs Gonzalez
Nalbadnian vs Baghdatis
Fish vs mallise
Srichaphan vs Stepanek
Johnasson vs Verdasco
Haas vs Mayer
Costa vs Spadea
Robredo vs Luczak

Also, I saw Agassi has a qualifier again this year...but at least it isn't Jerome Haehnel...I saw he's playing Luis Horna in the first round. The matches which I listed above a not necessarily going to be tough....but I was thinking moree along the lines of 'if I was Robredo, there would be a hell of a lot more people in the draw I'd rather play than Luczak', and the same with Nalbandian and Haas. However, the others, (ie. Llodra vs Gonzalez, Canas vs Monfils, Srichaphan vs Stepanek, Johnasson vs Verdasco) I think, are all contentious upset proababilities.

French Open sometimes(quite often) produces no name player champion.
For example, When Gustavo Kuerten won it 1st time, he wasn't a house-hold name.
Probably ranked around 50 or lower in the world at the time. Then he got
dis-qulaified at 1st round or something the very next year.
Maybe it's about time for french Open to discover a new known champion...

My semi final picks are:

Federer
Nadal
Coria
Ljubicic

I predict Nadal will beat FERRER in the quarters, who will have Verdasco and Gaudio. Nalbandian will be beaten by Fed in that q-f, while Robredo will lose to Coria, despite beating Santoro and Juerten on his run to the q-f's. If Feliciano Lopez can overcome Mathieu in the first round, he will go on to lose to Ljubicic in the semis, despite his wins over Monfils and Agassi. Roddick will go down in the 3rd round to Volandri.

You can call me nostradamus.

fastdunn.....the FO is the grand slam most likely to produce an unknown winner, or a lot of upsets, because a majority of the players ranked 60 and lower in the world are claycourters, and they can match/beat guys like mardy Fish etc when they get on the red stuff.

There are 12 qualifiers on the botton half and Massu will play one all the way to the 3rd round....what a draw for him.
Top half 6 qualifiers....is this fair?
I think they should spread the "Q" equaly on the draw.
why is this? anyone knows?

Qualifiers can be pretty tough.. The easy wins will be the WCs.

Randomly. All of the unseeded players are spread out randomly - including the qualifiers and the wildcards and the lucky losers. Hence, sometimes they get spread out unevenly.

random? do they throw the players in a machine and they come out randomly? or is a bias tournament director "randomly" placing these players much like they do with the placement of the seeds?

Well, by looking at the draw I've got a federer/nadal semi (safe bet), but on the bottom I have coria/Roddick (not such a safe bet) I guess I want roddick to go deep because espn will show all of his matches. If he is beaten in the 1st or second round espn will not shoe the jc ferrero/safin 3rd round match, or the nadal/gasquet. They will simply show a repeat of the roddick defeat a few times and then fill in with US women's matches. I hope a am proved wrong.

AR plays Jo wilfred Tsonga in the 1st rd. I don't know how many of you are familiar with him, but this guy has a very nice game and with a little luck should be able to take out roddick on clay.

No, the tournament directors do not place the players. Sometimes they're drawn out of a hat/cup/bowl/whatnot; the US Open recently switched to using a computer program to do it automatically. Many, if not most or all tournaments have a public draw ceremony - the US open certainly does.

The tournament directors, btw, don't place the seeds either. And except at Wimbledon, the tournament directors don't mess around with who's seeded how high either, they go by the entry rankings.

Roddick (easy draw) vs. Coria (great clay courter)
Fed (not the best clay courter but still has the game) v Nadal (great clay game and possible grass game as his only junior tournament was wimbledon in which he reached the final)

French Open results

First off, I'd like to thank the participants in the first annual Grand Slam draw Final Four predicition tournament. Your dedication is really what made this event possible and sucessful. I would like to continue the predicitions for Wimbledon and the U.S. Open and keep standings and see who comes out with the most correct at the end of the year and wins the prize. To the results.........

Many of you picked a Federer-Nadal semi and to those of you who could forsee that, congrats, but none of you 10 are the winner, since none of you 10 picked Puerta or Davydenko. With the implosion of the bottom half of the draw no one predicted more than two semi-finalists correctly. But we did have one "Fena14" correctly predict Puerta into the semis. Because of this correct prediction and his/her selection of Nadal, Fena ends up with 2 correct predictions. By the tie-breaker, chosen soley by me, the commissioner, Fena14 is the winner of the 2005 French Open Final Four Predictions. But have no fear if you continue to participate those of you that had 2 right will be in the same place in the standings as Fena14 , but Fena14 will just have the distinction of being the French Open winner since he/she selected Puerta. Everyone is still in the running for the year-end prize.

And those of you reading this that did not participate, have no fear I will start up one the day the Wimbledon draw comes out and you will be added to the yearly standings.

As for the current standings:

Fena14 --------------- 2 correct ----- winner by Puerta tie-breaker
gifted_shotmaker ----- 2
lum ------------------ 2
K!ck5w3rvE ---------- 2
Match Point ---------- 2
dAgEnEus ------------ 2
Cobrien -------------- 2
don knot ------------ 2 ------- quote below for you
D-Man -------------- 2
Westside ------------ 2
Jonnyf --------------- 2
Misiti99 -------------- 1
Grimjack ------------- 1

But wait there's more......

You were proved wrong, except you were right about the JC Ferrero/Safin match. ESPN didn't show it, NBC did. What a shame.
