Without practice he is probably their #2 but I can t see why he would want to either

I think the question should be, why not? If you love the game and have the ability to compete,

Also, if you have competed at a high level and trained/played tennis for most of your life, it becomes your life. It can be very difficult for ex-pro athletes to wake up each day and not train/compete. The drive that got you to the top doesn't simply turn off like a switch. If you played tennis solely for money, then it might be. But the best in the game would have played regardless of reward.

With a big pile of cash in the bank Greg is in a pretty good position. It might be annoying to younger players trying to get those wildcards but he has proved himself and should be given the chance. He is smart enough to know if he can still compete and I am sure he will realise very quickly if he can do it consistently at the highest level.

The game is too great as a mental and physical challenge for most to walk away from forever.

I understand what you're saying law, but it would make sense if he was in his 20s and had an early retirement (like Hingis) to want to come back. At 35 he may play just as well as before skills-wise but he's likely to be a step slower than guys who are only a couple of years younger than him. I say this because those two years in 'hiatus' or whatever it was put him out of all that match practice. And i mean competitive match practice. Even blackrock isn't enough.
It's not that he shouldn't be eligible to make a comeback, i just wonder what he hopes to achieve. Obv he wants to win as many matches as he can and enjoy himself whilst he's doing it. But it's going to be harder for him to make it deep in these tournaments, and that's where the fun is likely to end.

I'm sure he misses the tour but i doubt it will be the same for as it was before. Nostalgia can sometimes be a bad thing.

All true. But a real challenge is what all athletes relish more than anything. It might be nice to have an easy win now and then but everyone loves a good fight and to push themselves to the limit. That's EXACTLY what is going to happen when Greg gets back on tour.

I am sure, if he gets consistently whipped both the wildcards will dry up and his off-court activities will suddenly become very attractive ;)

With all the fuss about Delic being a Fed clone and Tsonga looking like Mohammed Ali but playing like Safin... When I was watching Gilles Muller it seemed to me that he has certain swings that remind me a lot of Rusedski. Just a thought.

Yes , but a good one.. IMO they are very very similar.. its almost freaky. perhaps Greg was a little bigger in his forehand windup / swing.. Mullers is a bit more simple and compact.. Muller has probably been hearing this for a while but dude they sure are a lot alike.

Maybe he wants some $$$, some fame, some adoration, some challenge.
There's always room for big serving southpaws.
And sitting around weaving sweaters, maybe he looked back at his days and saw the flaws in his game that other players saw, and might give it a go with those in mind.
Being smarter is not always the worse thing, even coupled with a step lost here and there.
