My wife and I just returned from Sanibel Island. I've never seen so many tennis courts in one community.
Here's the review I wrote up for Tennis Resorts Online for Sundial Resort:
My wife (not a tennis player) and I spent 5 nights at the resort. The room and setting was very nice, and it's located on a great beach. They offer a daily clinic every morning. I went 3 mornings. The first day was with another couple that were in the 3.0 - 3.5 range. Jason, the pro kept it fun, but it wasn't terribly competitive (I'm a 4.0) or instructive. The next day I was the only one that showed up for the hour-long clinic. At some places I've been to, if only 1 person shows up for an hour-long clinic, they cut it to half-an-hour explaining you're getting a "private" lesson. (Pretty lame, in my book.) Here, however, I still got the full hour. I told Jason I wanted to work on mostly playing points, with a bit if instruction as he thought necessary. We played a variety of games which emphasized different aspects of the sport, and he offered good suggestions. It was a lot of fun, and I learned a few things. The next day my wife and I left early for shopping in Naples. There's a nice tennis center there as well - the Arthur Allen Tennis Center. I checked it out, but didn't play. Back at Sundial the next morning I was again the only one to show up for the clinic. It was Jason's day off so I had Tony. I don't know if Tony and Jason are on the same level, or if Tony is in charge. But anyway, Tony is older and gave a much more instructive clinic. Tony and I rallyed a lot, but didn't play out points competitively. He gave me some good solid advice, without trying to change a bunch of stuff in the span of an hour. I was very pleased with that clinic.
I asked the guys about other chances to play, and they got me into an afternoon men's doubles round-robin at an affiliated club (The Dunes). Although we got rained out half way through, it was fun. I'm 50+, and think I was the youngest one there. I had fun with those guys, and there was a lot of good-natured ribbing back and forth. Some were playing a bit more seriously than others, but still it was a fun afternoon.
