Hard court is not tennis. Irrelevant surface. Hemce why Djokovic not in same league status wise as Fedal. Where it counts on grass and clay he is a distant 5th and 3rd of all time

Very elitist opinion that would limit the professional opportunities to mainly privileged country club and otherwise advantaged players. The beauty of hard court is it takes the least amount of preparation and can be installed nearly anywhere.

I get being salty about the homogenization of surfaces but this is a shameful opinion. Allowing as many kids to play for as little entry cost as possible is the only fair tennis opinion. Especially with the declining interest. I expected better from you

It is not a natural surface and causes far too many injuries. I should know. Hard court is my best surface but it has hurt the game badly. Because of hard courts you have too many players who are one dimensional serve plus oners

I don't know even one player, who didn't have to retract derogatory statements concerning tennis surfaces, so if that statement is real Diego will soon backpedal on it.

Tennis is greater than all of them. Some know it, some realise it the hard way.

I get not enjoying the surface but that’s not the point. One of the major factors in the tennis boom and transition from a largely upper class white-shoe/white-shorts affair was the advent of cheaper materials and hard courts becoming more popular. Think about the climate necessities for clay and grass along with the cost for a second. Would Andre Agassi, whose father was a lowly hotel worker in Vegas, ever have had the opportunity to play tennis without hard court? Good luck growing and maintaining a grass court in LV. More than that it has helped expand the sport worldwide as opposed to only lawn tennis or clay courts in Spain/Italy/South America.

Hard courts made the sport into something far more accessible and equal than a clay/grass split. I still prefer grass as well but to do away with hard court would be limiting or even eliminating the opportunities of Sampras, Agassi, Djokovic who played in a swimming pool, and many more true ATGs to play tennis. Like I said I get not enjoying the surface but I would take the contributions of these amazing players over your traditional clay/grass split any day. Every sport becomes better to watch as more talent becomes available and HC is a huge reason behind that.

Hang on i never said get rid of hard courts. I said there are too many events on hard court. I would prefer an even split of clay hard grass and carpet.

Djokovic can play real tennis! Nadal can't anymore: he hasn't won AO or Wimbledon in years! He needs slow clay, and relatively slow USO, to win Slams!

Nadal used to be able to win AO ('09) and Wimbledon ('08 and '10), back in the days when he was young, and still had leg speed! Nadal had to be in his early 20's to win those Slams; Djokovic still dominates those in his mid 30's.

FO and W are the natural surfaces and why they are the Big 2 Majors. Plexicushion tbh is not even a surface worldwide.

Grinders grind. When you can't finish points it has to be frustrating.

Argies are always joking. Vilas said after winning the WTF in the Melbourne lawn in 1974, that he had thought that grass was for cows.

This is such an American POV. The great majority of the rest of the world, Europe, South and Central America, Africa and Asia play on dirt or clay and the tennis boom emanated from there. Cement, or hard courts, is a relatively new American invention and it's only in the US that public courts are mostly cement.

The quote is true in the sense that clay actually makes you construct points rather than just rely on a big serve and the court speed to get you through.

It used to be true in the past, but not now. Players used to approach the net, on indifferent serves and approach shots. Now even at Wimbledon, Federer has to pick and choose to approach the net, even on first serves.
