Sebi Korda says he's one of the Wimbledon favorites

Yesterday Korda was asked if he had game suited to grass. Sebi said:

"Yeah, I do. I'm very confident in myself on the grass court. I move really well and definitely have a game that not very many people have. I'm an aggressive player, I like to come to the net, I have good hands, and I definitely feel as if I'm one of the favourites at Wimbledon."

At least Sebi is showing some fighting spirit, unlike Casper or Thiem at RG just conceding the trophy before the first ball was struck.

Is Sebi to be commended for his confidence or is the American just delusional?

From what I‘ve seen from his previous two matches he looked surprisingly good, actually.
And then, if you consider the grass field.. he has as good a chance for the second place as quite a few others.
Favourites is quite a difficult word regarding this Wimbledon though.

I like how he speaks about himself in interviews. He has self belief in his game and what he can bring. That is the right attitude.

He is also great for American tennis, because he has he game for all surfaces IMO.
he can have same self belief even without spouting about that, less words the better, as been proven many times before, especially if you outside even top ten of favs

Djoke at -150 on DK.

Maybe go with Zed at +3500 though and take it as a cash out spot later in the tourney  Fritz might even be a good value for that.

In addition to everything else Novak wins because he thinks he can win against all odds.

The mentality might be good for him and others on tour....

I like Sebi, I think it's good that he talks himself up. He moved well against Tiafoe yesterday. But Sebi claims he volleys well - I rarely have seen him at net?

Will Djokovic get Korda this time in the third round of Wimbledon?

Then you haven't watched him enough. He's added more power to his game, but maybe 1-2 years back he was having to construct points more carefully and finish at net because he didn't really have the putaway power from the baseline. Maybe still doesn't, but I haven't watched him a whole lot lately.

he doesn’t have the durability to last through 7 matches. He’s got the talent to make a run but injuries and fitness are his problem. He can be a problem for a top seed in round 3/4. But when he gets deeper is when he falls flat on his face.

I mean, what is there to say here? We all know the only open question about Wimbledon is who will be the runner up. Might be Korda, why not. Anyone can in this field.
Depends on the draw. I don’t think Korda has the durability to make it through a Qtr final at a slam.
We know medvedev and Novak can’t meet in the final as seeds 1 and 3 will most likely be on the same half (unless Carlos takes atp 1 by winning queens ).

3 and 4 are random. Djokovic can play Medvedev in either semi or final.

I believe his ceiling is higher than any of the other Americans in the current Top 50.

History has usually shown 1 and 3 end up on the same half. I know they’re “random” but it’s been consistently that way lol.

Usually? Back a few years ago, we got Federer and Djokovic on the same side year after year even if they were 1 and 3 or 2 and 3. :)

But right now, though American he is in the Nishikori band wagon. Always injured.

He’s by far and away the most skilled and talented of this current batch of overrated overhyped Americans.
I agree, I don't rate Tiafoe or Fritz at all. Shelton didn't impress me watching him play live, though he looked pretty good at Queen's this week and is still very young. Tommy Paul and JJ Wolf are also meh.

Maxy Cressy though.... He can retire from tennis tomorrow and just become a male model, he'd have greater success.

Good to be confident, better to be right about the reasons why you're confident. Not sure why Korda decided to go with that last bit about being one of the favorites.

He injured his wrist at AO. Had match point against Djokovic in the AO prep tourney before then. Strong player. Would be interested to see what he can do at Wimbledon if he's fully recovered.

To me, his game resembles his father’s a fair bit. His father was a slow court player. But the slow court players of the 1990s are the lightning fast court players of the 2020s.

It would be epic if Sebi won Wimbledon and did the double scissor kick like his Dad used to do. Petr made the QF of Wimbledon one year, he had a fun grass game.

If he can learn how to close out matches, he might have energy to compete in slams. He gets into too much trouble in matches he should easily win. Incredibly talented, and I love his calm demeanour on court. Almost Borg like. Seems like a real guy un interviews, too.

Yes like Sinner and Karen he do get in unnecessary long matches

I watched his mental implosion last year (or may be the year before that). He is not as calm as he appears on the court. I gave up on him.
