a strange one...lenz stormed back in the second after a lazy first, so assumed he had decided he didn't want to go home on his own courts against an inferior player...didn't see the third to see what switch he turned off against a guy who really shouldn't have been able to hurt him

There is no inferior player at this point. I'm so glad he lost .. Baylor foreigners all act like idiots in front of their home crowd ,no class .. At the beginning of this year I may have liked them but seeing their arrogance I hope they never win anything .!
Wang was down 2 match points and came back 4 straight games to win the match. Baylor boys go home .. Abroad where ever you all came from .. Are all of Baylors starters and bench players all foreigners. How did they get away with that ?? I thought you're only allowed 4 1/2 scholarships ?

Why did California's Lynn Chi not compete in the women's singles? She was ranked #50 and played/won in singles and doubles in their loss to Stanford last Friday.

the individuals are allways crap in my eyes
end of season
most players no intention to play anymore on 100% especially after team play

Yes your are half right Most plasyers who made it thru later rounds of team competition are drained . But from what I'm seeing here in Waco the ones who are left ,really want to compete and get that free ride into the U.S. Open . Non-US residents players who are seniors have no real incentives to play because they won't get a wild card anyways .. Waco has different feel than Athens a lot of seniors are fighting their hearts out because they sense everything is coming to an end and they don't want to see it end yet ..

She did not have enough matches played to qualify for the tournament, she missed large majority of the Spring Season

They do cheer hard for their team. I've seen a number of teams and home crowds other than Baylor toe the line maybe go over the top cheering and heckling. Not saying any of it is right, but they are not alone. I've had the chance to talk with a number of the Baylor players and they are all super nice and personable. Diego Galeano is as nice a kid as you will meet. They had two Americans when I saw them on the road.

The 4.5 scholarships are divided up any way the coach wants. At schools like Baylor, Tulane and other similar private schools that are expensive, the coach has to target kids that can afford the school even if they grant them a 1/2 tennis scholarship. Wouldn't surprise me if some come from wealth and don't even need the scholarship. Talk with the coaches at these schools and you'll find out how top American players don't give them consideration.

i think it's rubin or shane at this point

both playing like they want that us open WC

i bet rubin leaves for the pros if he gets it

The reigning men's single champion (Marcos Giron) is not still in the running but the men's doubles (Mikelis Libietis/Hunter Reese), the women's singles (Danielle Collins), and the women's doubles (Maya Jansen/Erin Routliffe) are still in the running.

Noah Rubin mentions that Yannick Hanfmann got point penalty in the last game of their 6-2, 6-4 match. What was the reason for point penalty?

The ACC would like to thank the other conferences for participating in the men's NCAA singles tournament. :)

Semifinals tomorrow: Quentin Monaghan (Notre Dame) vs. Ryan Shane (UVa) and Noah Rubin (Wake Forest) vs. Thai Kwiatkowski (UVa).

Two out of four on the women's side, also.

well done ACC, well done! (even if duke cannot be a part of that accomplishment this time around)

Ball abuse....after he lost the game at 5-4.

Surely, Yannick didn't think he could beat Noah,, did he ? Noah is supposed to be eventually top 50 player in the tour when he is ready. And he has a good chance of winning the Singles crown, now that Winston is out.

Will Noah turn pro if he wins the individual ?? since Wake forest has NO chance of winning NCAA anytime soon..... or any near future for that matter.

Would the USTA give a wildcard to the us open to any American winner. For instance if Monghan wins would he get one? Considering he is considerably less heralded than Rubin, Giron, Johnson, or even Britton.

my understanding is yes
but it's rubin or shane, monghan isn't winning this thing
and i'm sure the USTA would be annoyed if he did (TSK they probably wouldn't mind since he has a USTA PD background anyway)

Where do you propose they play the tournament that you can guarantee no rain, Death Valley?

I'll go out on a limb and guess "yes" he'll turn pro if he wins. Noah smartly chose to attend WF knowing he would play #1 and get to play the best and toughest matches every time they compete.

Rubin vs Shane. I would prefer Shane to win because I would rather see how he does in the US Open. There was done quote from earlier in the week from Rubin that suggested he might not even take the wildcard if he plans on coming back to Wake. Said he doesn't see the point in it considering he played in the US Open before and was rocked by Delbonis

haha, no chance he doesn't take that WC if he wins

if you get lucky / play a great match / get a good draw and win the first round...well, your ranking instantly skyrockets and allows you to probably skip forward an entire year or more of battling for those points in small chunks on the futures tour

no way he would pass up that possibility until proven otherwise

I'm sure he would take the wild card either way.

I think maybe the quote you're referring to is ZooTennis saying that he might not take the Wimbledon qualifying wild card he's entitled to from winning the juniors last year. Completely different situation.

Or anywhere in California. Hardly ever rains in this state between March and December (hence the drought we're now in).

Hasn't rained here much the last few years. It just happens to be in Waco a year we have record rainfall. It happens and anyone complaining it probably making too much of something. Last few years, people would be talking about the unbearable heat rather than the rain.

Rubin should win this. he is pro caliber already.

And GO Carol Zhao. You are the girl who will win US open very soon and Canadian open too.....

As proven in Texas this year. Droughts do not last forever. The next complaint will be the sun was in my eyes.

HUGE news,
Tornado warning in the area. They've evacuating the building. Tornado on the ground within 10 miles.

Finals just over. but evacuations begin.
Ryan Shane wins the Singles and Jamie Loeb wins the Woman's singles.

Doubles yet to be played. May not even happen now with Tornado coming in......................Safe Evacuations.

Ryan Shane is a great player, will he turn pro for sure?

He might, if he survives the tornado. They are going into storm shelter in Baylor right now.
Ryan Shane will be top 200 player but no more. he never did well in the Challengers and I don't see him developing into better player. and he has 1handed backhand and that don't work in the pros.

Like Pete Sampras once said, "You are only as good as your second serve."

I watched Ryan quite a bit over the past two weeks. He has a brutal forehand and a consistently 135-140 pinpoint 1st serve. However, his biggest asset is his second serve. Noah Rubin is an excellent returner and he was completely manhandled by it. Heavy heavy 115-120 kick serve..Rubin could not get out of the way on body serves. I think Shane is a top 50 potentially based on serve alone.

That's very true. Everyone talks about Isner's 1st serve cannon but Isner probably has the best 2nd serve of all time. Unfortunately for him he is still susceptible as can be seen by him getting blown off the court today by an on fire Chardy
