Hope he can get fit in time for the big one at RG...

No Alcaraz, no Sinner, potentially no Medvedev (defending champ) - not sure who else may withdraw
But things looking better for Djokovic suddenly - smart move to skip Madrid and focus on the period just around RG

Young guns need to learn to pace themself for slams. They just need to follow the page from Novak book of stretching , nutrition and sufficient rest between the tournaments .

Sinner and Alcaraz really shouldn't have played Madrid. They both made their existing injuries worse. I hope they can recover for RG but it's not looking good.
I get Alcaraz wanting to play Madrid because of home country and obligations but Sinner was absolutely stupid for playing it, and he can’t even play his home country Masters now. But both absolutely should not have played.

I can guarantee that both will rush the recovery process and play RG and make the injuries even worse.

Djokovic put in his time already on the tour so I wasn’t sure why people were giving him a hard time for skipping Madrid after his good showing in MC.

Yea these guys and their teams really dropped the ball. RG is what really matters and not these lead up tournaments. It's ok to skip them if you're dealing with an injury. Yea I think they will play RG too and make them worse. Djokovic skipped Madrid the most of all the Masters in his career so yea it wasn't a surprise, and it was even less of a surprise considering his age. He made the right decision.

Regardless of your opinions on each player this is pretty sad for the sport. A young two-time defending champion comes to his country only to aggravate an injury and the first Italian man to win a GS in nearly 50 years can't play in his home event. These were the two players on the ATP side that were expected to carry the torch and sustain a competitive rivalry.

i ain’t watching till RG then. What a joke the tour is with all these injuries. No one wants to see 2nd rate mugs play that are only winning because of injuries to top guys. You may as well not watch at all. Stuff like this keeping up is really going to turn off tons and tons of viewers

Damn, I was hoping that it was a minor hip niggle, but now it sounds more serious. Terrible for the ATP to have both Sinner and Alcaraz having injuries that can potentially linger. Knocks the wind out of this year where the main storyline that was developing in the first quarter seemed to be if the rest of the Tour can keep Sinner from the #1 throne.

Apart from injuries to Sinner, Alcaraz and Medvedev, Djokovic hasn’t been in good form while Zverev and Rublev are wankers. This means only Ruud, Tsitsipas, Hurkacz and Dimitrov are the ones in the top ten whose matches we can look forward to. Will Ruud or Tsitsipas continue their good runs from MC/Barcelona to do well at Rome/FO?

Sinner should withdraw from Roland Garros as well. He should focus on getting healthy for Wimbledon...a slam he's capable of winning.

Oof. 2024 clay season is really sort of trash. Lol. Flip side, gives other players a chance to achieve, get points, money, etc. I have NO idea what will happen at the French this year. Too bad for Sinner; hip injuries are tough.

Not good news. I believe Djokovic is the favorite at RG this year, but without a healthy Carlos or Jannik, the tournament becomes a lot less interesting for most tennis fans. For me, the only excitement will be generated by how well Rafa does.
I know most do not want to hear this, but Rune and Zverev might use this opportunity to get their careers on track again. Just saying. Nothing is impossible. And it might turn out to to very interesting.

Ruud is Rune's father at RG. Plus, Rune has done nothing during this clay season, while Ruud had played both the Montecarlo and Barcelona finals.

Ruud is a superior clay player than Rune and can be more dangerous at RG.

As a huge Holger fan, I can't argue with this. Rune is 1-6 against Casper, his only win was last year in Rome. I expect Rune to lose early in Rome and do little at RG. He's just in a free fall right now. Hope I'm wrong, but am being realistic.

Djokovic is not the favorite of RG. Because he is 37. But he is my favorite active player and second of all times behind Connors and before McEnroe.

Agree mostly that you are right. Even Tsitsipas can come in here and do something nice. Thing is that the possibilities are wide open and up for grabs. Exciting times for all the contenders.
