Starts 2024-5. Still in PAC-12 until then ..
Have to say she’s playing impressive tennis this summer including her win over Brantmeier of UNC at the San Diego Nats last monthGO Katherine Hui,, putting a beating on the #2 seed right now in 1st set already............. GO CARD.. One of our Sandiego's very own.......................and future #1 in the world
I think that means the Stanford coach submitted these pairings for consideration in the polls, so it is a preview of what you might see this year.Pre season ITA rankings
Blake # 14
Yepifanova # 21
Ma #26
Blokhina #54
Xu #118
Doubles
Blake / Blokhina #6
Ma / Yepifanova #60
Incoming Freshmen List
Hui #2
Yu #4
Difficult decision on line up ! Doubles pairs too. But nice problems to have ….
I don’t quite understand the Ma/ Yep doubles ranking. Shouldn’t it have been Ma/ Xu ?
total blowout, keeps on impressing everyone. Hopefully she will stay at the Farm for more than a year. But she looks like she could turn pro now.Hui just routed Samsonova 6-2, 6-3.
Will face #9: Valentova in the final!
Yes this begs the question if Hui will stay. But I think she should prove herself at college level before going pro. If she wins NCAAs it would be an easier decision. For what it’s worth, SoCal can bask in the glory of placing two of its players in the final (the other being Tien). Add Michelsen, Kang and Quinn (a bit of a stretch because he’s from Fresno in the Central Valley) and the rich pipeline continuestotal blowout, keeps on impressing everyone. Hopefully she will stay at the Farm for more than a year. But she looks like she could turn pro now.
I’d agree with playing Hui atop but more on the basis of her win over Brantmeir who’s undoubtedly a top 5 player in women’s college tennis. It’s a bonus that she’s USO girls champ but as @nomalt points out it is no guarantee of a smooth transition to the top of the college game…and Hui takes the title 6-4 6-4 !
Going to be a tough decision on the line up. Last year Yep was great at #1, Blake undefeated at #3 and highest ranked .Ma didn’t have such a great year but this line up would be incredibly strong.
1. Hui
2. Yep
3. Blake
4. Ma
5. Blokhina
6. Yu
Wouldn‘t lose many singles points ….
If you are going to base the order on high ranked wins then Blake had wins over #3 Lea Ma, #8 Komar and #19 Broadus. Yep’s highest win was over #28 Morra. But since Blake was a lock at position 3 I doubt if they will change that.I’d agree with playing Hui atop but more on the basis of her win over Brantmeir who’s undoubtedly a top 5 player in women’s college tennis. Battle of the Bay coming up this weekend..... Card to sweep this one easily,, just no competition anymore in the bay areaIt’s ok. It’s the Card after all!
Would like to see which Stanford players are in this weekend’s All American singles and doubles main, qualifying and pre qualifying draws but it seems like that information is still not available on ITA site other than to college coaches ?
Can’t open that link ! Think you have to log in as a coach to open it.As far as I can tell, no players from Stanford will be participating at the All-Americans: https://colleges.wearecollegetennis.../players/04EDD997-D93A-48F1-89D6-1C489D3D95E1
Got it to open in the end !As far as I can tell, no players from Stanford will be participating at the All-Americans: https://colleges.wearecollegetennis.../players/04EDD997-D93A-48F1-89D6-1C489D3D95E1
That maybe indicates that Yepifanova, Blake, Ma, Hui , Blokhina and Xu will be competing in the All AmericanA couple of players are in this weekends Cal Fall Invitational (Houghton, Sun & Yu)
Got it to open in the end !
The players on the list are all playing pre qualifying. That’s why there are no Stanford names shown .
Are there any other links to the qualifying and main draw players ?
Why is the ITA so secretive regarding (or possessive of) this information? What harm is caused by disclosing the identity of participants to the general public ahead of time? Not asking for the draws but just a list of those playing. And the site can do with navigational improvements. Often the page-back cursor doesn’t work and one has to start on the homepage again to “return” to the previous page one was on!Can’t open that link ! Think you have to log in as a coach to open it.
But I know that definitely several Stanford women are participating. It’s surprising that the ITA is not showing everyone that is taking part on the website.
100% agree with you. It’s completely ridiculous. Why is the ITA so secretive regarding (or possessive of) this information? I found the acceptance speech by Gibbsy really eye opening. To hear her say her passion for the sport "was 'tenuous', at best." which is something I never thought about watching her on the court at the Farm. She did conclude with "Stanford was really the only place where I loved to play tennis."Congrats to Nicole Gibbs on being inducted into the Stanford athletic hall of fame. She was on track to be a top level pro before her health failed. Really like her game. Watched her exploits on YT. Current men’s coach Paul Goldstein was also honored
