Strange string break...:)

Just wanted to share these pics...this is a customers racket (ex ATP Pro, head coach at my club). The strings are topspin Cyberflash 17 @52lbs and 7 months old (he only hits hard once a weekish). The break occured during hitting with another ex pro..the first time he has hit hard in the last 7 months! I asked how the hell he did this and he just said "I returned a hard serve and mishit the ball".

I have never seen anything like it!

Not that weird. It's just a double sheer. The ball hit between two strings and sheered them both, and that makes it look like four strings broke. Only two actually did though.

Yeah...I have only ever seen 1 or 2 strings brake at the top.

As string age they relax and are unable to handle a mishit. Seven months, it wouldn't have matter much if he hadn't hit with it at all. The elastic limited is very low over all that time and the peak load just breaks the poly.

wow, i just restrung a head liquidmetal rave today with that same break! oh, and it was also on a bad miss hit.

Its not my racket...

I've noticed a lot of polys do that when you mishit near the top of the racket face. Probably too stiff they can't absorb the impact and just break.

like in squash.. a tiny ball goes between the frame and strings.. hitting it hard.. the balls just goes straight through.. same with tennis i guess the rkts strings.. arent ment to support such miss hits of the ex pros's "big" serrve? i remember alexander waske (ger) palying and it happened to hit.. with a fxp prestige.. and full PRC.
