String problems

Well before i start id like to give a little background info. First I am 13 years of age and about a year and a half ago i hurt my shoulder and was out for 6 months (so only been back for a year) before my injury I was using NXT Tour 16g but the stings kept breaking a bit more than i wanted them to so i switched to luxilon M2 Pro 125. A few months after i switched i hurt my shoulder and was out for a while. Since ive been back i am using Wilson NXT Tour 16g again and I keep breaking the strings after about 4-5 hours (2-3 days) of hard play and i have string savers in. Now I am tired of stringing so many racquets (i string my own) and the strings are $19 a pack.

I am looking to switch strings now to a very soft somewhat lasting string. Im not looking for something that will never break just something that will only break maybe every 7-10 hours of play. Now I want the softest possible sting that will last. One of the strings i was looking at w as Luxilon 4G. I would probably do a hybrid with it with Wilson NXT Tour to try and make it as soft as possible but i think that would last a little longer. If you have any suggestions for soft somewhat lasting strings or hybrids that would be good please reply :)

Give Wilson Red Alert a try. It's a synthetic gut, but the longest lasting one I've seen. It will be much easier on the arm than any poly.

Since a high degree of softness sounds like your top priority, I'd say leave the poly options alone for now and try some other stuff.

A couple of multis that have impressed me with their durability are Yonex 850 and Head RIP Control - pretty sure that both of these go for maybe $7.50 a set.

Synthetic gut doesn't seem to get a boatload of respect, but I really like what it gives me. Aside from the bang for the buck, it's not too hard to dial in the right tension for decent feel and many 16 ga. choices have more than acceptable durability for me. Forten Sweet 16 is one of the softer syn. guts I've sampled - that stuff could definitely be worth a look. Also check into Prince's Original Syn. Gut (non-Duraflex). I haven't used it lately, but I have some fond memories of that string.

Arm problems=no poly. Better safe than sorry. Say, what is your racquet? An high SW or an high static weight could account for your shoulder problems, even with soft strings.

Changing racquets may solve the string breaking problem. 18x20 patterns break much less often. If you use luxilon 4G you can consider going down on the tension because of your prior injury. It isn't a soft string. Drop tension at least 10% and see how you like it. It should last you 2-3 times longer than NXT.

oops sorry for multiple replies. I was trying to edit it. Oh and string the racquet at about 58 pounds and two piece. The string savers i use are the Gamma string savers deluxe.

Im very sorry for so many replies (i dont think there is an edit button?) but the cost of the string i am not worried about. Also would something say natural gut and something else a little rougher work? Something like the Wilson Champions Choice string?

Try Ashaway Monogut ZX. It is made from Zyex and holds tension very well. Both times I've tried it, the string lasted a long time until I hit a shank. If you are hitting a lot in the sweet spot, then you won't have to worry about breaking it on shanks. It is very elastic but still has a poly like feel.

Sometimes it seems that Steve Huff and I are whipsawing people about Wilson Red Alert.
Maybe we need to start a Red Alert Fanclub!:)

It's a great string for hard hitting juniors.
Tougher than multis or most synguts.
You can string it high to approximate the stiffness of poly without the resultant arm issues.
Possibly the best spin you'll ever get from a nylon unless you use thin, fragile stuff like Head PPS 18.

But don't just take my word for it. (LaVar Burton's voice):

IMHO it is the only real innovation in mono core nylon strings since the introduction of TNT, LightningXX, PSGD, et al.
It's not just the coating. The outer filament wrap alternates round fibers and triangular fibers giving it a unique texture.
It is truly different than your run-of-the-mill synthetic guts (not that I have any complaints about Forten Sweet16, mind you. It's still my default fullbed syngut)
