I know this is a stupid question but i have to ask it. I have a Head Prestige Tour MP I bought over a dozen years ago. I didnt use it at all til last summer when I started playing a lot again. The strings are the original strings and seem to be working fine so why do I need to have it restrung?

You say that, but only until you get it restrung will you notice how much of a difference new strings make on all shots

Oh JEEZ! I hope I'm not too late! The Crossbow is the WORST design Head has ever come up with. It has VERY special stringing instructions and someone who doesn't have access to these can mess it up badly! (...like break it?)

Anyone want to throw in some ideas for a revamped sticky?

This section changed to Strings only since this sticky was created. What content do you want to see in here? What ARE the most common string questions that you're tired of answering?

I'll probably do something about string composition, technologies (generalities, here), string patterns, stiffness, tools available (link to TW's tools).

Stringing techniques/patterns will probably fall under the machines/techniques sub-forum, but i'll probably cross link the two FAQs.

Please submit your ideas if you have any!

Edit: If anyone wants to write a comprehensive FAQ and volunteer to maintain it, I'd be A-OK with that, too ;)

Something wrong, dude?

Johnnie:
No offense intended. I always thought the blue face was just a friendly smile looking up at a post. Upon pointing at it, I see it means "sarcastic". I didn't realize that. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

I've removed all my blue faces from recent posts.

I turn 60 years old in a few weeks. I guess I'm not as up on my smiley faces as I should be.

Best Wishes.

Not a problem, I've always found you to be a genuinely good natured, helpful contributor, I just never understood the smileys ;)

Cheers!

Edit: The guy in your avatar looks to be much, much younger than 60.

I have 2 Steam 99S and 1 Steam 105S

The 99's are set up differently with: 4G @ 45lbs. & the other 4GS @ 54lbs.

The 105S has the new Wilson Rip Spin(17) @ 30lbs.

Regarding the 99S frames, the one set up with 4G @ 45lbs. provides more spin and comfort than the 99S with 4GS @ 54lbs.

The 105S with Rip Spin(17) @ 30lbs. is the most comfortable and offers great spin. Moreover, unlike the racquets set up with 4G and 4GS, I do not see any signs of notching.

Regards,

Tony

I have been experimenting with a lot of strings.
Till now I have been liking a tight 56-59lbs and control oriented string bed of polys, like the pop sound too, but they are dying on me too fast(5-8hrs play). Tried 58lbs with synthetic guts and that gave me an instant shoulder pain, I used Head Master Syn Guts.

I have been reading a lot about loose poly string beds, typically 45-49Lbs.
I have a Babolat Pure Drive and a Wilson KBlade 98.
Typically, when my 56-58lbs Poly strings get loose, I start hitting the ball long and I have to slow down my natural swing speed.
I understand that applying some Physics Laws, that loose string bed will absorb a lot of the incoming ball force, but just how bouncy a trampoline will it be.

The best way to find out is to get a 45-49lbs string job done, but I want to get an insight of what i'm getting into. Please share some thoughts.

How does a Babolat Duralast 46Lbs on a Pure Drive 2013 sound ?

String

I'm fairly new to tennis (been playing about 7 months now) and I've reached quite a good level and play with a wilson juice 108 and the string it came with is wilson sensation 16, I just wanted to know will i notice the difference/play better if I get it restrung with luxilon big banger for example? I hit the ball pretty hard and flat but also like to use spin a lot! Sorry if this is a very novice question.

are they ever going to update this website? There are so many new strings that aren't in this list that I am very interested in the stiffness of the strings and tension loss.

The January edition this year updates the newest strings of the last 2 years only. Note you can now download this as a PDF for easier viewing.
