TC is selling its soul to Pickleball.

Tennis Channel has premiered a new commentary show "2nd Serve." 2-3 guys chatting about tennis on one screen while they show some of the live tennis action from around the world.
It's been interesting, feels a little more like talk radio or a talk show then tennis commentary, but they go a little deeper in the weeds asking stuff that the mainstream media don't care about as much or rarely touch. So I had some interest and hope for this show.

They were having a great interview with Michael Chang. He was recounting his Roland Garros win, pulling out the underhand serve vs. Lendl. Commentators asked what type of string he used and what tension--Prince Pro Blend (Kevlar) in the mid 60s. Discussed more string stuff with a pro which was fun....

Then they bring out a whole segment on PB. Chang talks about the Pickle Ball Slam--which aired on ESPN not TC, aired against ATP TC coverage. After he and commentators glorified it and Chang's segment was gone, it goes to Sam Querry volleying PBs live with one of the other commentators on stage (tennis no longer on the screen). Then they spend a big chunk of time talking about Querry and PB before going into all the professional leagues and then a full interview with the founder of Major League PB.

No longer showing tennis on the side, instead showing PB clips that aren't live.

This is not a good sign when the sports channel of a sport is investing so much time in another sport.
Not any tennis coverage marketed tennis as well as it is marketing PB.

Pickle's pretty fun to play, but I really don't see the appeal of seeing people hit the ball with a literal chopping board and generate minimal spin and get into a contest of dinking softly hit balls just over the net because they are prohibited from closing in on it.

Even wiffleball, baseball's amateur spin-off is way more interesting than this cus at least you have the crazy spins

There are lots of things Tennis can do to improve things but it needs to be done regularly and focus on all levels, but particularly at the family, recreational level.
if tennis organisations look at Pickleball as a partner or competitor a strategic plan needs to be in place for both scenarios.

I wish tennis channel actually had more segments on tennis gear. Like, actual staff (not company shills) doing real world testing and reviews.

Like, is that too much to ask? Oh, they give us pickleball instead? Fck right the fck off with that.

There must be a lot of lobbying about it.
Tennis Pickleball?
I'd say there is a lot of money about it right now.

And good for PB, just stop vulturing tennis resources.
My guess is TC sees all the money going to PB and needs to jump on board otherwise TC will be gone and we'll be watchin an hour highlight show of the masters on PB Channel in a few years.

Andre's not missing any cheeseburgers, and he's sharing a court with Chang, who he trashed in his book. This is just last month and yes, ESPN broadcast this live in America.

Covering pickleball may expand their viewership. Younger folks taking up PB may start playing tennis too.

The Second Serve show is amateurish. I have no interest after watching a bit.
