We don't necessarily mean he's had a bad year ON COURT. 3 losses (so far) is ridiculous, all things considered. But let's be real... this year's been an utter mess for him in so many ways that it's ******** to even list the reasons why
I think is because the expectations for him are very high. Even people that hate him think he should be winning everything.

What's truly shocked me over these past few weeks is the amount of hatred towards him despite losing the RG final. Can you imagine what it'd be like on here if he'd actually won!!

Because deep down they know he is on the verge of setting a big record (weeks at #1) and is tying another one this year, and they don't like it.

Novak can't keep his mouth shut even if his life depended on it, but he's still one hell of a tennis player.
I'm no fan, but as a tennis player, he deserves more respect than he gets.
I don't like how many people take his eccentricities off the court and smear them over his tennis career.

Sorry no. Those are the expectations fans have been setting. There are users here named after achievements he doesn’t yet have!! (CYGS)
I have no problems admitting he‘s a great tennis player, has a fantastic future and could possibly break and set records that will last a long time.
But a bit of humility before hand goes a long way in how harshly people will judge when he doesn’t meet those hyped expectations.
Look at Rafa. He‘s the one that should be gloating after this year but he stays humble and admits while the future looks great on paper, anything can happen.
Easy to lay the blame on ‘haters’ when there is no self-reflection

I think he does get respect for his tennis - maybe not around here but no one doubting his tennis abilities...You can’t really argue with his stats....
It just seems this year he is on a mission to have a PR disaster....He really could have done without making those comments after Vienna - feel like I am saying that all year....He seems not to be affected by all the negative press but I’m not sure long he can continue ignoring it....I think he could make life a lot easier for himself - swimming against the tide all the time gets tiring after a while....Is he favourite for WTF and AO? 100%.

He's hiding because he beat his 2 favorite players. Rafa matched the 20th Slam record of Feddy. And Rafa beat Djoker to a pulp at the French Open. Leave him alone. He's just sad and sulking

He has himself to blame. He was the one banging on about slam record and winning FO and USO. So his year is a failure by his own publicised yardstick.
Had he kept his piehole shut then his year would have been great bar USO. His fault he is seen as a failure this year.

The author put all his or her eggs into the basket of Djokovic winning USO and FO. I recall having to calm whoever it was down by stating facts such as Djokovic level of play. Had i been heeded perhaps the calamity Djokovic suffered at both majors would have been bearable.

He was an elite level bodybuilder who also does a lot of personal training and fitness therapy work for clients based all over the place.
Now that things have opened up a bit more after the first shutdown he is probably doing a lot of air travel attending conferences and doing in-person fitness industry work (massage therapy, supervised trainkng) that he wasnt able to do during the shutdown.

He's not a very well liked man... and this year he's done himself no favours at all...
- Touching the umpire in the AO final
- Hitting the lineswoman - sure accidental, but why hit a ball in that direction?
- Adria tour - players contracting COVID-19 because of it
- Anti-vaccine stance - why on Earth would you refuse it?
- Forming a break away tennis association
