The most troubling thing about the whole series was Ted referring to his college dating as "squiring women around town."

Real formal with the courtship was Ol' Ted.

He was unable to court and date and it was all about sexual thrills through murder ???

It is an old-fashioned English term for dating women/being seen out with them, somewhat like courting.
it was a well known fact that bundy liked College girls because they tend to be beautiful girls. Now, there is nothing wrong with that in itself...... Only problem was that he also liked killing them........ That is where the Problem came in....lol

It was about power and control more than anything
The sexual release was connected to the violence

Back in those days they had no internet , no data bases and zero states and fbi working together and no dna .
They had him in Utah and let him escape in Colorado . They knew in Seattle his name and car type but let it go when he moved to Utah

Gacy did even more torture

It was unheard of in the 70s but at the same In Chicago you had Gacey

Together they killed 70 people or so

Remember seeing one of those serial killers, probably Bundy, on the 700 club. He had become a Christian prior to execution. Pat Robertson said he would be going to heaven.

Not until day before execution did he finally admit the truth
Finished the 4 hr Netflix show

He picked Florida because he wanted to die and purposely was sloppy at the end

Have just started watching Ted Bundy on Netflix and halfway into the first episode and one can already detect the serious conflict in Ted. Growing up he viewed himself as a normal kid whereas others perceived him differently. The woman, Ted's childhood friend, reveals quite a bit on that in the first episode. Good start to the episode.

I finished watching the first 3 episodes and now in the middle of the 4th and I must say I am disappointed because it does not detail on the gruesome nature of murders he committed and focuses far more on other details, his looks etc. It evokes a certain kind of emotion where you almost feel sorry for him and I find that to be wrong.

It's in chronological order but that doesn't mean it covers everything. It leaves out much of his childhood where I feel all the mysteries are. Even he was in complete denial and said nothing caused him to become who he eventually became, but the fact that, he had no father or even worse, his grandfather was most probably his father who was an alcoholic and abuser tells a lot more about his very troubled childhood than his own confession which was nothing. His grandfather did a number of things that I found very disturbing and it makes sense the way Bundy turned out in the end. Also, he started killing as early as a teenager and might have killed more than 100 by the time he was finally convicted.

TB was manipulative, cunning, narcissist and a true psychopath. Women trusted him quite easily because of his good looks but a lot of the time, he simply kidnapped them and bludgeoned them to unconscious or death. Had a serious anger issue but he was able to control it where he felt it was needed, like, when he was with other people because he needed to show he was not guilty. It's evident in the documentary.

One person did say that while his eyes were blue, when he got upset or angry, they'd turn black. TB himself said that he always felt like as if he was possessed as something would come over him and take full control where he couldn't think of anything else but to driven by it. Killing that 12 year was really something I found very hard to digest. I wasn't aware of that.

I've always debated over the years if some people are born evil or the environments/circumstances especially the childhood lead them to become who they turn out to be in later life. But TB would peak through the windows to see naked women and would go through garbage to find any kind of X rated magazines very early on and played a different role in public. He was really clever that way as he already knew what was acceptable and wasn't by the society.

His mother was in complete denial as expected but his grandmother was very depressed throughout her life because she had to put up with that monster husband of hers who most probably molested his own daughter and impregnated her. And from what I know TB found out about it early on when he was 12 or something and that's a very impressionable age. In his mind back then, he must have thought it was okay because he really didn't have anyone to clarify that.

Also, he loved the attention and felt he was extra ordinary. Didn't like to be treated otherwise. Personally I feel he felt neglected a lot in his childhood and truly didn't have anyone to look up to and that angered him as he had the desire to grow up like a normal kid, but circumstances weren't as such so he channeled all that anger the wrong way and took it out on innocent women and obviously had a very twisted idea about sex. I don't think he ever fit it even though he really tried and he also didn't take that rejection very well where he failed to maintain his relationship with that rich girl as he wasn't really from a wealthy family.

so it was his maternal grandfather, i'm glad somebody was specific about that, so incest may have been a factor of some sort; perhaps.

nature vs nurture or what exact combination can lead to such an example as Bundy.

although physically, Bundy did not exhibit any of the stereotypical traits that are associated with incest. i'm not sure how much of that is folklore vs being based in fact.

Saw it, the lack of empathy of some people is quite disturbing. Watching this man, who had murdered many women brutally, smiling in the court instead of showing at least a bit of repentance is scary to witness.

People who were close to him said Ted didn't lack empathy or at least he didn't appear to be so but what he showed in the presence of others is obviously was not something he was thinking about in his mind. He was probably plotting his next victim in his head if anything.

Psychopaths are great at mimicking emotion after all. Does not mean they feel it too. I'd say they are entirely void of empathy and compassion primarily. And all other positive emotion because they do feel all the negative emotion such as anger and are often filled with lust and greed. That much is evident. Even the killers of worst kind avoid killing children but he had no problem killing a 12 year old innocent girl and dumping her body in the woods on a roadside.

There are some awesome documentaries on Netflix. This one was right up there.

I recently watched Evil Genius (pretty good) and Oklahoma City (excellent).

Ted's mother Louise insisted that he had a father who was apparently a sailor went by the name ...well, I forgot but when it was investigated, they weren't able to locate anyone by that name and it was never found. And in the birth certificate, it said under the father name, 'unknown'.

Louise gave birth to Ted in some house where unwed mothers would give birth to their children. And she, in fact, left Ted there but it was her own father Samuel that told her to bring Ted back from the home and they, the grandparents, raised him as their own son and Ted's mother, Louise was seen as the older sister. It's some of the close relatives who insisted that Ted was the son of Samuel anyway.

Ted always held a grudge against his mother for not telling him who the father was but he was very fond of his grandparents. A lot of his dark nature actually resembles Samuel in many ways as he was an abuser who used to beat up his wife, threw his own daughter once down the stairs because she overslept and had a tendency to abuse animals. And despite all that, Ted was still very fond of him, and spoke highly of him. I think, not sure, Ted was the only son in the family. I will need to double check on it but if so, you could tell why they were fond of each other.

I really want to see the "extremely wicked, shockingly evil and vile" film where Ted Bundy is portrayed by Zac Efron in the perspective of his girlfriend, Liz. Gotta feel bad for his girlfriend given she was oblivious to all of this madness until Ted was nearly executed I believe. Also, it's kind of funny how Zac Efron went from being Troy Bolton to Ted Bundy LOL

These crazy killers don't feel emotion like normal people. Like you said, they are good at mimicking it. I think the lack of feeling emotion is how they are capable of these things. They simply don't care and it does not resonate with them. They become "serial" because it never resonates at any point.

Example of this is my OCD. I lose control of my mind at times and let it control me such as re-arranging the furniture for 4 hours and not even realizing it has been 4 hours or that it was a waste of time. Then I snap out of it and realize how ridiculous it was. It resonates.

On a Macro, and violent level, this happens to serial killers, but it never resonates.

I did see it. Liz was quite oblivious initially no doubt. After all, Ted looked good and was fairly charming and Liz desperately needed a man in her life at that time, but later she did have doubts especially when she had trouble accounting some of Ted’s whereabouts. Also I feel some women prefer not to find out as they fear that it would shatter their world if they did.

I definitely think Ted was a born serial killer (a true psychopath) - one of those exceptions to the rule while others were more victims of their circumstances and difficult environments that shaped them to become what they became. And once you choose that path there’s no turning back because of the way it makes you feel. From victim to someone in authority that gives power over others with no remorse. No remorse because they strongly feel no remorse or empathy was shown to them so why should they.

I find OCD very interesting especially the mindset behind it.

These are two very different things btw. What you do under the OCD is very different than what the serial killers do under their mindset. Your rearranging furniture doesn't equate to their killing of innocent people. For example, you find no satisfaction in rearranging the furniture for hours whereas they derive a lot of pleasure but mostly cheap thrill out of it. Yours is more habitual whereas their's more spontaneous but there's a precise thought process behind it. Both are some form of mental illness however with one being rather deadly.

But yes, it never resonates with them - not even remotely.

Do you think he means it too? I do find it quite alarming.
Given the collection of his strange posts, I couldn't even hazard a guess. At some point you would think he would take a step back to read his own posts and say, whiskey, tango foxtrot.

I kind of think he does, though. That's what leads to all of the "I am this" but "I am not this" postings.

So you think they are addicted to the thrill of it? I see it more as who they are and they simply don't understand what they are doing as they have no emotional attachment. They mimic it but don't feel it or understand it.

This leads me to believe they don't think about it too much, but just go into their own world and do what they do. But unlike other mental illness, they simply never snap out of it or understand what they have done.

It is both. They enjoy the thrill of it because of who they really are or more importantly, who they chose to become. It's almost always about how they feel. Ted Bundy had great emotional attachment to his Grandfather for example, so you can't say he didn't have any emotional attachment but it's not the normal/typical kind of emotional attachment as his grandfather was just the same only that Ted took it to next level, but Ted definitely liked what he saw (abusing women primarily). In other words, he's fully capable of relating to those whom he saw fit his criteria, in this case, albeit in a negative way. I also think he had a weakness towards his then GF, Liz just like Adolf was vulnerable to his mother and GF as well as the dog. So they weren't completely devoid of emotion - either positive or negative. It's just far more complex than that as opposed to simply who they are.

They don't think about it because there's nothing to think about when it was all decided at the sub-conscious level from childhood. They already know who they are. It's just very hard to understand from the positive sides of things. It's just the other side of the spectrum and they feel they are right. Or that their action is right.

I think he tends to shoot his mouth off without giving it much thought. He does have his prejudices - no doubt about that and some of them are very, very extreme but could just be harmless at the end of the day.

Glad there's actually a post about his victims. It's quite sad since all of us know who Bundy is even 40 years after his last killing, and 30 years after his execution, but 99% of us can't even name of his victims (myself included). If you're interested in knowing a bit about all the innocent women he savagely took away from this world, I totally suggest clicking the link above!
