I am heading to the above area for 5 days the end of March. Supposedly it's northwest of Orlando. I know it's an "adult community" but are there any players there or in the area (I'll have a car,) who want to hit? Here are my particulars:
I'll be there March 26-31. I am a 55 y.o. 4.5. Let me know!

Bummer, you will just have missed the college rush of tennis players down in that area over their spring break...I do know someone who lives in "The Villages" but he's not a 4.5 level as far as I know, but he might know someone. Let me see if I can get in touch with him.

I appreciate the offer, thanks. Good point about missing spring break, but I wanted to time the visit with my trip down to the Sony Erickson the following week.

I've seen that place advertised. It looks nice, and is pretty new. Let us know what you think.

The primary cause to go here is that my GF's parents live here. It wasn't really a vacation location based decision. In any event, I'll let you know when I get back in early April.

If you don't mind the hour trip to Orlando, head down to Orlando Tennis Center on the weekend. It is usually fairly easy to find pickup doubles matches and sometimes a pickup singles match. Most of the people there are 4.0 to 5.0. Saturday is usually better than Sunday.

The only facility that I know of near the Villages is called Harbor Hills. You may want to give them a call to see if there is anyone you can play a little bit closer to your location. Good luck.

You could check out Justine Henin's academy too. I think it is out there somewhere but I'm not exactly sure how close it is to the Villages.

The Villages????
Can you give me some details on this Villages!!!????
The reason is that the Villages I know of is not near Orlando at all. More to the western side of Florida, near to Ocala.
Please double check! I maybe wrong but I just want to clarify. And the Villages that I know of in Ocala are an adult community.

I'm not positive that rasajadad is talking about the place in Vero Beach - but that's what I was thinking of --> www.blvdtennis.com

The Villages is north and west of Orlando by about an hour to an hour and a half. It seems to be about two hours north and east of Tampa. And yes, it is an adult community.

Oh - Thanks. If it were closer to the beach it might be something I'd check out. My wife and I are looking for a place in Florida.

I was seriously impressed with The Villages. We got our cats from a couple up there 10 years ago and I can see why many retire there. I'm a long way off from retirement and I already live in Florida, so I doubt that is where I'll be in 30 years.

It is a really nice city geared for the elderly but is out in the country. If you are seriously considering moving to Florida, I would not pass up a trip through there if you are driving down I-75 to check out places on the west coast of Florida. If you are looking over on the east coast, then it is pretty far out of the way.

Geezer,
Here's my take on the Villages:
It's a great place to go for an active senior. There are currently 78,000 people over the age of 55 there. (Most are much older.) Lots of golf courses (38) and tennis courts are all over as well. There are not that many players over a realistic 3.0 though. There is no singles at all, just doubles. There are limitless things to do there.

In a nutshell- great place, just not for tennis.
