Mon dieu! Gulbinator about to lose on French soil. Oh well...it will give him more time to commune with Oscar wailed at his grave in Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris and figure out the importance of becoming The Ernests again!

He had me worried there for a moment! :)

I wonder if he is aiming for 'The No More Than 1 Match Per Tournament' record this year?

Open de Nice Cote d'Azur (Nice, France)
Gilles Simon and Ernests Gulbis visited downtown Nice-La Coulée Verte.
“I didn’t win a lot of matches so I decided to play some mini tennis with the kids so I can get my confidence back," joked Gulbis. "Some of them were tough!”

(well... not tough enough, apprently) :-?

I wonder if he managed to win more than 1 match against those kids? :)

675 points less towards the elitism he so earnestly sought through '13 and the first half of '14. I'm telling you this death spiral was sparked by the loss last fall in Russia to The Spoiled Princess. The bitter irony...that same Princess got smoked even worse today!

So Gulbis is now at 28W-31L in Slams.

2R-1R-4R-1R-QF-2R-2R-2R-2R-2R-1R-1R-1R-1R-1R-1R-1R-2R-1R-1R-2R-2R-2R-3R-1R-2R-SF-2R-2R-1R-2R

I wonder if ever a Top-10 player finished his career with a losing record in Slams.

a slight consolation, indeed ! :p

but i'm wondering if i'm not starting to understand his straternestgy now...
look:
animated-fish-jumping-out-of-water.gif

for jumping high out of water, a fish (should also work with a dolphin, an ichthyosaur, etc.) needs momentum, and maybe that's why he decided to take this journey towards the abysses of the ATP rankings, in order to jump even higher ?

Gulbis: "Also I saw the draw a little bit. There is really not somebody who I cannot beat in next couple rounds, so slowly, slowly I start to find my game"

Yeah, Tom...I thought after he left Bresnik for Enqvist, the flying eagle forehand would have been at least tamed, but there it was, swooping around for all to see. And it was tough to root for him after his behavior in the first round, where he riled his opponent and the French crowd, only to have to play a Frenchman in the second. It's way past time to grow up, Ernie.

So what are the odds that Gulbis gets serious and reworks his forehand into something that doesn't take such a ridiculous long setup?

He can still bomb the serve but, even in his win, he had a game in which he double faulted three times in a row.

My date stamp on the OP was just barely more than six months after that #152 nadir. He had climbed nearly 100 spots at the time. That's how streaky he can be. Perhaps the climb back will be quick and steep too. He has only one win (1R Wimby) to defend and 8 total wins on HCs for the rest of the year.

Did Gulbis get his heart broken last year? I know Gulbis claims not to date, but maybe he just doesnt like to be radio free with his relationships.

Will there be an early round clash at Wimbledon with the two tennis forces that have been losing to gain confidence?Gulbis vs Nadal on a nice slick grasscourt sounds great to me.

The Latvian Eagle vs. The Swiss Maestro. A soaring victory for Gulbis or will Roger make sweet, sweet music on the lawns of Halle? Looking forward to this one!
