Lost the first set to Thiem.
and he was leading 3-1 in the 2nd set..
*enable gulbrina mode*He had me worried there for a moment!
I wonder if he is aiming for 'The No More Than 1 Match Per Tournament' record this year?

Open de Nice Cote d'Azur (Nice, France)
Gilles Simon and Ernests Gulbis visited downtown Nice-La Coulée Verte.
“I didn’t win a lot of matches so I decided to play some mini tennis with the kids so I can get my confidence back," joked Gulbis. "Some of them were tough!”

(well... not tough enough, apprently) :-?
So, time to enjoy the sl*ts at the Blue Coast?
I will stop believing in sport and start believing in miracles. And TTW will shut down out of embarassment. If Ernest wins the French I think the forum will explode.
Mahut is a clay court specialist, no?
No. He prefers grass. Both of his titles came on grass as did his other 2 finals including 2007 Queens!
I was being sarcastic Mainad... this is a troll topic ya know
Fair point. Sorry! It's the stats nerd in me. I can't help it!
ok... it's journey towards grass now.
let's look at the positive side: in about a week, he just tripled his total amount of match wins !
a slight consolation, indeed !675 points less towards the elitism he so earnestly sought through '13 and the first half of '14. I'm telling you this death spiral was sparked by the loss last fall in Russia to The Spoiled Princess. The bitter irony...that same Princess got smoked even worse today!
juan monaco is on the good camino...I wonder if ever a Top-10 player finished his career with a losing record in Slams.
I wonder if ever a Top-10 player finished his career with a losing record in Slams.
Yes. Now I see it's not that unusual.Juan Monaco is 28-40 in Slams (that's counting the two FO wins this year)
Cockyness undermining talent.
He fell out of the top hundred in 2013, so 86 doesn't sound so bad. Maybe he enjoys playing the qualies.
Felix would be afraid to fall that far that fast:Your new world number #86, ladies and gentlemen
you just can't know with ernie !My date stamp on the OP was just barely more than six months after that #152 nadir. He had climbed nearly 100 spots at the time. That's how streaky he can be. Perhaps the climb back will be quick and steep too. He has only one win (1R Wimby) to defend and 8 total wins on HCs for the rest of the year.
The Latvian Eagle vs. The Swiss Maestro. A soaring victory for Gulbis or will Roger make sweet, sweet music on the lawns of Halle? Looking forward to this one!
