2012 was a slumping version of Djokovic. He played nowhere near his prime level. And 2014 and 2015 versions of Federer are much better than the 2012 Federer. It's not even close.
no, you fresh new green troll, Fed also didn't play well in Wim 13 when he lost to Stak, in 16 when he lost to Raonic, 18 when he lost to Anderson, 21 when he lost to Hurkacz
he only lost to Novak at Wimbledon when he was nearly 33 or older.
Past his prime fed beat prime Djokovic at Wim 12 convincingly in 4 sets.
Djokovic just ultralucky with ~33 yo old federer or older.

2014-15 versions have lost his old forehand, which has always been his biggest weapon by far. He could no longer smack balls off his FH side at will with a free-flowing motion after the racquet change. Meanwhile, his gain in BH side did not really pay off until he faced Nadal again in 2017.
The fastest tournament over the last 15 years was Paris 2010, and guess what, Djokovic went down like a chump against a S&V journeyman who suddenly caught fire during that tourney (one must be kidding him/herself if he/she believes that Llodra is better than Henman, 2003 Federer or even Phillippoussis).
Because Federer fares so badly vs Djokovic in real life. His fans have to imagine every mythical, hypothetical match they can think of. Their unsurprising verdict: he wins every of those.
Thanks, OP, for the definitive qualitative last word on this, and not just the usual speculations and musings.
A plausible explanation for this is: the harder it is to return, the more important it is!
If a court is so fast that Djokovic has trouble with the Federer serve, then Federer would also have trouble with the Djokovic serve. Then the question is, marginally, who holds the advantage?
Just as we expect, Wimbledon and AO on top of list; USO in the middle; RG bringing up the rear.
