Huge shoutout to @topspn for sending me YPTS to try. Much appreciated my friend.

Will string it up in one of my 63 RA TC100 later this week and give feedback.

No worries, we are all tennis crazies. And by the way, Saleem did the same for me and sent me a pack of scorpion to try. Nice people we have on here that enjoy sharing :)

I currently have a variety of 4 frames in my bag. Duel G 310 with weight @12 and under the butt cap to just over 12oz. Truly beautiful playing frame with very nice touch. An SV95 stock with nothing more then OG and rubber band. A precision package with power. Dunlop Srixion Revo CX 2.0 in stock form but will add weight because it badly needs it. Too high of a launch angle that needs adjusting. TC100s that are 339gms with OG and rubber band. The most forgiving of the group but I needed to tame launch angle and predictability. I think I am on to something with 16g poly and higher tension crosses. It gives me a more predictable response and moderates launch angle. I don’t care for higher launch angles because I like my swing to determine how loopy or tight my shots are. It is my variation in shot making that i use to throw off rhythm. TC100 also has the biggest serve and SV95 gets 2nd place.

I've just simply identified TC100 63RA as the frame with most potential and the rest is about string adjustment and commitment. The most potential for clay court play, that is. The rest is about "Nadaling it out" i.e. playing long enough to get a feel even for the worst case scenarios regarding that frame (like touch volleys with APD...I presume). Knowing the frame so intimately that nothing is an unsolvable problem anymore.

Yeah, I hear you and mentally I had sorta made a similar conclusion. I however got emotionally intrigued to try out the SV95 and the CX2.0 and here I am :D However, all it took was playing TC100 after my latest stringing with HH 16G and I immediately asked myself why why why? are you spending money on other racquets that overall can’t displace my TC100s

This is the place for all of us who have embraced the superb custom racquet experience that is Angell. Unlike every other "official members club" we don't all have the same racquet or specs, but that is exactly what makes Angell so great; custom tailored racquets to each of our needs. It seems we're seeing more Angell converts every week, and that makes me happy.

Include your racquet and unstrung specs.

I've got two TC90s - both came as 330g, 305mm balance, but I have since taken one set of weights out of the handle, and added a bit of lead tape at 3/9 and some putty in the under the butt cap. Strung, with leather grip (I prefer no overgrip), they are just about 331g each right now, with a balance of 331mm. I decided to drop the weight so I can swing faster, and I find it quite nice. even though it's lighter than I usually prefer, it's rock solid and super comfortable. I have no idea what the swing weight is. Anyway, I love these racquets to death - just a joy to play with.

I ordered more custom 90 frames from Paul at Angell Tennis.
Gotta love the custom feel.

Any Angell users wanna share their frames, specs and photos?

Mine are TC90 344g 305mm balance

Great looking racquet. Lead tape in the throat? How did it chage the feel and playability? Can you tell more about your setup, did you add lead also in the hoop?

Hey @haqqani1777 I read somewhere that you were trying Oehms strings.. how is that going for you?? Any particular one you like?? Im really curious for nostalgic reasons...my late dad used to play with Oehms grips and that was one brand I never really got to use growing up....any string you would recommend for relatively flatter hitter with previous arm issues? 4.0-4.5 player here...just bought myself a few Angells too

They feel different in play, but that’s true of any 16x19 vs. 18x20 comparison

yeah, this is the case but one would expect it to be a little more softer given the open string pattern. I was then thinking that more strings = more strain on the frame so it may lead to a softer feeling in this instance in the 18x20.

I would love to try it but the 95 is such a great frame already.

I remember reading on here that they are very similar to head calfskin. Probably the most similar to pro grip stock if this is true. Couple people using their grips in this thread

Hi Faris, yes I have Black Pearl Classic and ALU Star in a couple of my 63 RA TC100. I really like the Oehms leather grips too, very high quality on par with Fairway and Head Calfskin. Your dad had good taste. I have not hit with either of the strings yet unfortunately as I am recovering from a sore wrist and can not hit every day. Next up is YPTP and after that will give Oehms strings a shot. I have a feeling Black Pearl Classic will be a soft smooth poly and so will the ALU Star. Send me your address in PM and I will send you a set of each to try. Better to keep a good thing going and follow in footsteps of Saleem and Topspn :)

I know it's probably been asked before, but is there any word from Paul about the future possibility of cap grommets being available?

First outing with TC100 strung with Lyon 1.25 at 22kg. Not bad, but far from fireworks. I’m going to hit YPTS vs. Lyon tomorrow.

Footnote: I also hit Fischer Vacuum Mid (with grip enlarger installed - 1 size), bare Fairway and strung with VS/RPM hybrid. Compared to this setup, TC100 63RA with Lyon felt closer to a metal pole than a tennis frame.

Really? You saying RS felt harsh at that tension?

In comparison to Fischer Vacuum Mid with gut/poly set up it most certainly felt a bit harsh. Springy and indefinite would be my adjectives of choice. Like you don't really know what's going on.

There are few frames I’ve ever regretted selling and the Vacuum Pro is one of them. [emoji471][emoji462][emoji471]

Thanks. I wanted the racket to feel a little stiffer on impact (there's no change to the racket flex, but it feels slightly stiffer on impact), so I took the advice of some forums on Talk Tennis and tried some lead in the throat. It feels and plays great.
My specs are:
Weight: 344g
Balance: 305mm
Grip: Tan Leather L4
Grip Palette: B (standard)
Grommets: Green
Swingweight: Not sure as I haven't measured it yet after applying lead
Strings used (in photo): Solinco Hyper G 1.25 (I have a hybrid of RPM Blast 1.25 and Angell Halo 3 in my other frames)

The vacuum pro ms 90 is a very buttery flexible stick. You won't get anything like that these days. I used to use Vacuum Pro 90s, then Dunlop Aerogel 100, Dunlop Aerogel 4D 100, Dunlop Biomimetic 100, Dunlop Biomimetic F100 classic before I found Angell.

Hey guys! So I am using the 16x19 tc97 right now and like it quite a bit. I play with the 330 gms / 305 mm (unstrung) version. I have added 6 gms at 11-1. I have been following this thread recently, and see that many folks are liking the 18x20 version of tc97 much more. I have read that its a different layup even. Has someone tried both these rackets ? What is difference in performance and feel? I understand that 18x20 and 16x19 string patterns are supposed to have certain differences by their nature, but I wanna know if the difference between these rackets is more than that ? Thanks !

I've got a TC100 63RA on order too. I hear they are backordered. Has Paul or someone at Angell given you a status as to when they will receive more 63RA's?
Thanks........
I have one on order as well and haven't heard anything from Paul regarding timing of delivery of the backordered frames.

Yeah, kind of. On Oct 3 we discussed the following "We are excited expecting new stock within the next 10 days. We have already pre sold a fair few of them but do have more arriving in November too.".
I think it should be ready soon. Hopefully. :D

Anyone try Kirschbaum Competition 16g in their Angells?
Specially for you I strung up my TC95 16x19 63Ra with Kirschbaum Competition 22/21,5kg. Boy was that string elastic. Like pulling a rubber band. I thought after stringing that this string must be waaay too powerfull for the TC95, but I was pleasantly surprised with the string. Good spin and good bite on the ball. Slices were very nice. Will report back to you after hitting with some better players tonight.

Tried RS Lyon vs YPTS properly today. Both 1.25, both strung at 22kg, YPTS in an old paint job TC100(has 6-7 hrs of court time in it), RS Lyon in a new paint job TC100. Specs roughly the same.

YPTS has much better control and much less power (20-30% less I’d say). I felt like I would have to string Lyon 2kg tighter to even it out. Lyon has more connected feel but at 22kg it was less predictable. Better shotmaking with less effort with Lyon but I played much better with YPTS simply because I could just let it rip. I guess I prefer muted feel, too, because YPTS wins this battle hands down for me. I will keep other sets of Lyon for my 18x20 frames or as a cross for gut/poly hybrid.

Side note: played with friends APD 2013 strung with RPM in one, Luxilon Alu Power in second one. Gave it a good 30 mins and have to say I am beginning to appreciate the whole APD concept. Solid frame, albeit a sort of one trick pony...at least I could not make it play flat shots well in that half an hour. Decent touch around the net (it’s more about hands than about the frame, I guess). Overall a solid, no nonsense frame.

It plays great in TC95 16x19. RSLyon was my favorite until I tried Kev/ZX at 60/40.
Never tried RS Lyon, but Kev/ZX can't be beat. I keep experimenting, but never liking anything better for more than one outing. I do prefer the regular ashaway kevlar vs. the kevlar plus or whatever comes with crossfire, but both are good.

Wanted to add my support for the Custom 95 16 x 19. I found out about Angell because of this forum. So, thanks to all who have contributed. My specs are 330g, 12points HL, 63 RA, B grip shape, size 4 1/2, tan leather and blue grommets. In short, I love this frame. The last two racquets I have used regularly were the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick and the Wilson Pro Staff 85. Very different for sure, but I liked each for different reasons. I fell in love with the serve of the Pure Drive and the easy power, but I sometimes had trouble controlling it. I then tried the Pro Staff when it was reissued by TW about 5 years ago and loved it for the precision and plow through. However, the sweet spot was so small that I often left balls short and I had some difficulty putting it away when an opening presented itself. I was intrigued by the idea of using Angell to create a frankenstein racquet with the best parts of the Babolat and Pro Staff. (I tried the RF Autograph, but found it too stiff). Through several e-mails with Paul, I explained my game and what I was trying to do. He recommended the TC 95 16×19 with the 63 RA. The racquet is exactly what I was hoping for. I feel no drop in control from the Pro Staff, but my shots have a significant amount of added zip on them – maybe not quite as much as the Pure Drive, but the ball stays in the court. Serves are actually even better for me than with the Pure Drive. I now consider my trial period complete and I ordered a second frame with the same specs. I hope to use the Angells for may years to come. Thanks again to all who have provided reviews and opinions. Hopefully someone else will find my experience useful.

TC95 Vs TC97 - (16x19)

Forgive the long post, but I hope it's of interest to some.

I’ve been playing with a couple of 16x19 TC95’s for the last 2 years and recently saved up enough to add a 16x19 TC97. I was hoping that it might come in a little easier to swing, and still have the same spin etc , which would help in fast moving doubles.

The specs of both are the same - 27”, 320g, 305 balance pt, L3 synth grip. I add an overgrip & dampener.

Physically the two are almost identical. The internal hoop width & height are the same to the nearest mm (240x327), the spring layout is identical ie. the grommet slots are the same when overlaid, the hoop frame is the same depth. The only measurable difference, on mine at least is in the V (or throat),where the wall thickness is 10mm on the TC97 and 8 on the TC95, and the V is 2 mm taller on the TC97, (and consequently 2mm less material in the bit between the grip & the V).

I’ve strung up a TC95 and my new TC97 with my usual Kevlar/Zx preference, at 55/45.

In terms of strung up spec the TC95 is 344g, balance 310 (10 pts HL), SW 333. The TC97 comes in at 342, 311 balance & 331 SW - so basically the same. Not what I was expecting, but interesting.

However, that all ends in terms of feel on the court. For reference, I’m a 2st team player, play plenty topspin off both wings, shbh, all court tennis. I’m UK based, but probably 4.5-5 usta standard.

I’ve played a few hours of social doubles, and a couple of singles matches so far, and in each alternated between the two to get a useful comparison for myself and get enough time under my belt with the TC97 to adjust to any differences.

FIrstly there’s a tangible difference in feel when you strike the ball - not better or worse, just different. I’ve found with the TC97 I get a bit more pace, but definitely less spin, so less action on the ball. So I found that although the ball was arriving faster at my opponents they had less trouble returning the ball from the 97.

So, if I’d written this review after the first singles match ( 1st set with 95, 2nd with 97 - won 6-4, 6-4) I would have sounded that nice as the 97 was, I was more effective ( potent ?) with the 95.

However, the 2nd singles match ( 1st set 95, 2nd set 97, won 6-3, 6-2) was faster pace and his serve etc was harder. So, work on the ball is perhaps less important to getting the a ball back & past the opponent. I found the 97 was more forgiving (?) on returns of the hard serve and I think I found it more accurate in finding the gaps, with pace.

So, at the moment I’m enjoying both & looking forward to trying out the 97 in a faster paced doubles..

On balance, at my next social ( aka fun match) I’ll select my 95 for its shot making , but in the next competitive singles I’ll try out the 97a again

I paired the RS Lyon (mains @ 50 lbs) with YPTP cross (@ 48 lbs) and I agree with the dead/mute Yonex factor. It is however not as pronounced with RS Lyon in the mains.
Pros and cons, swings and roundabouts as it were.

I'm not saying it's the silver bullet but one can certainly find benefits of either strings in its corresponding position.
