not only they dropped twaron but the frame felt "cheap" flimsy to us purists :) many would attest to my conclusions

Agree

In addition, Michael already tested many thousand frames, usually it is easy just to listen to his review, he already did the hard work for us the readers

I have tested thousands of frames true but you are holding on to a collection of the best frames ever which have done a hell of lot better than the currant markets. You have invested wisely:)

I just saw a PT630 on the big auctions for $500:shock:

You talk about pt 630 like hes the messiah, no offense pt 630 i'm sure you have skills, but someone should never decide what racquet to use just because of someone elses review. At the end of the day its just an opinion.

For example, when I was in high school I was the only one with a pt 280 and alot of my teammates that tried it thought it was a horrible racquet, my coach even said it was too heavy, too much flex and not enough power. Now I see people buying them for a fortune at auction sites because its the "greatest." Most of these people are just trying to follow trends making it costs an arm and a leg for those of us that actually like the racquet.

Some people on here dont like the chinese pt 280, either because of the feel and some because its chinese which makes it less prestiges. I think its a great solid stick and while it differ from the austrain it is by no means inferior.

In conclusion what I'm trying to say is everyone has a personal preference and while you might want to read a review you should always if possible test things out for yourself, to see what works for you.

^^^^ ESP first welcome to TW, Second welcome to the club, third you may kneel before ZOD:), fourth you have said nothing that we do not already know, and last but not least how can we help you and why are you here?

PS, sorry if you did not buy all the PT280's on the planet for $50, I too am a nob for not doing that. Are you blaming us for the increase in prices? I too wish the prices will go down.

To all:

Please the PT 280/630 sucks don't buy them, there........ do you feel better? hope the prices will go down tomorrow, am I that powerful?

I too am used to frames that are very HL and have played with the most HL prestige Mids before my PT630. Which is why I used to fancy the more HL batches of the PT630 but now I like them all.

anyway, you can use Iprestige MP tapered CAPS that are a bit lighter than the original CAPS., just a thought

drakulie, try what Michael is suggesting, i.prestige MP tapered CAP, which you can get from TW. Make sure you ask them first regarding "tapered CAP" because there are also XL and Euro XL versions. Confusing!

If that still results in head heavy, try MG Prestige MP grommet which would for sure get the PT630 to about 8 points head light (strung).

I'm not used to head light sticks (8 points and above), so the PT280 with original grommet (about 6 points) is perfect for me but I sacrifice net play. :( I tried playing at 8 points but could never get a groove on with my forehand.

good luck!

Here's ONE reason why the PT630/280 is in demand...look at the ATP tour and what's under the paint job of MOST Head MidPlus sticks. Everyone who is interested wants to know what is up. I certainly did and glad I found out about it. :)

Remember the Prestige Classic 600? Wasn't it the MOST popular stick? It was popular for a reason.

Now, in modern tennis, there must be a reason why the PT630/280's, hiding under paint jobs, are popular.

^^^Thank you!

How can you help me? You can't, unless you can convince the people at Head to start manufacturing PT again in the original paint.:)

Why am I here? Because the PT 280 is my racquet, I chose this racquet out off all the racquets when I was 13. I was told it was too heavy for me but I insisted on having it. I didn't know anything about except that it was the best looking racquet I had ever seen. It is the racquet that I learned to play tennis with and it has sentimental value to me.

I am also here because I enjoy this thread, I enjoy reading everyones perspective in regards to this incredible racquet and I look foward to giving my perspective, even though it might sound redundant to an expert like yourself,

once again thank you for welcoming me to the club

First you have good taste and know what you want. Second, I have contacted Head and I have asked TW to contact HEAD. Sorry, it is not going to happen. But, we do have some ideas with few members of this board and maybe someday we will have them. Remember companies do read these boards;) And finally, we are looking forward to your review.

Curious, who would win in a battle between the PT630 users and the PS85 users? I bet there are def. more PS85 fans though.

AC, Of course PS 85 users, they are fanatics while we can play with more frame options. I bet you more PT630 Molds are on both tours than PS85's today:)

TW told me they're no longer carrying the i.prestige MP "tapered CAP" (tk57a)grommet - and that it's discontinued.

The XL version is simply the "bumper and grommet" non-CAP (even lighter), and I've been told it's also discontinued.

Anyone have information to the contrary (hopefully)?

Agree with you also, people should try/demo rackets to find one of their own preference. I have 300 frames in my residence (several paint job frames included),so I think I have tried enough frames, and based on my exposure, I agree 100% everytime I read Chaho's review.

I have 2 friends who switched to PT630, these 2 people never read TW forum, and they like PT630 after using my PT630.

My first PT280 was chinese, got 3 frames for $30/each new at the shop where Alpine Cadet works at. I got tennis elbow, I did not blame the frame, my stroke mechanic was not smooth. Then I found Austrian PT630, it is flexier and I like it until today.

There are people who has additional sense in reviewing racket stuffs, like Chaho, VSbabolat, prestigeclassic, Onyzx28 to name a few of people on this board. Just like when you read car magazine, those car reviewer can find many factors in pointing a car strengths/weaknesses

Honestly a PS85 is also a great frame. There is no point to figure out which one is better, ...it is better to figure out a way to make these companies reproduce those frames again....

BTW is there any difference between the PT 630 and the austrian 280?, besides the obvious (CAP). I have never played with a PT630 before.

Thanks

I thought I can not help you unless.......:)what gives:confused: as a PT280 user you owe it to yourself to try a PT630, you probably have early batches of PT280,,,, there is not too much of a difference in terms of weight in general, try to find one with made in austria above the handle, they are a bit flexier and a bit lighter, you may like it better

OK, PT630, point taken about Twaron vs titanium, but is feel enough?

While back, asked PT630 why he didn't like titanium, since I have always like the Ti Rads, as well as the LM Prestige MP's, got a reasonable response, decided I need to track down something with Twaron and no metal. So I found a friend of a friend with an old Prestige Tour 660, hit with it for a while. Given my ongoing constraints (re-grooving as I switch from hitting righty to lefty) seems like you were mostly right.

Where I agree: It really does manage to absorb vibrations but still give unique feel of the ball on the strings. Must be the Twaron/Kevlar. Buttery and precise like the old Estusas, rather than crisp and precise like the PS's, a bit damper than either. Seemed to have as much control potential as any current 93-95 stick. Size and softness made it surprisingly forgiving and arm friendly. Kind of what I wished my old PS85 had grown up to be. I can see why many pros used to hit with this.

Where I question the enthusiasm: Less power than my Ti Rads (which are not very powerful for an OS), unless right on the sweetspot, then OK but not overwhelming. Off sweetspot, felt nice, but produced deep floaters. Worked best volleying, or inside baseline with good prep. Serves didn't exactly rock my partner back on his heels. Can actually spin, but oddly, not as well as my LM Prestiges, which are denser. A lot of that is probably my mechanics rather than the racquet.

So all in all, agree about the unique feel, definitely see why current pros still use 630's. BUT not sure the 660 is realistic for me in a singles match against APDC's, or any other tweener. (It would definitely be on my short list now for doubles, though.) And while it's overall nicer than my Ti's, not so sure it cleanly bests my LM Prestiges. Yes, smoother and more precise feel, but the LM Prestige's have a more realistic amount of power and while they feel different, livelier, they're nearly as nice on/around sweetspot. So don't think your global condemnation of titanium works...

Sigh. Suppose I now need to track down a 630/280 to see how that compares, and also need to compare all to a MG Prestige MP.

Try the i.Prestige MP. More power than the PT630, with more stability than the LM/FXP/MG Prestige. Ignore the ugly PJ.

Actually have tried the iP MP; didn't feel like any Head before or since to me. More like a PS but hollower and less feel; maybe the lack of twin tubes or Twaron or anything except the intelligence fibers. Hurt my wrist badly after an hour, vowed never to pick one up again. But appreciate the input.

Did you hit with a 1-2 week old string job? To me, it doesn't feel anything like the PS85 (which is much stiffer with a crisp feel.) The i.Prestige MP feels like a semi-soft stick with a predictable string bed, even on mishits.

Some help please...I just noticed the printing on my Mid Plus size frames: String Pattern 16 x 19. They are a misprint. These are made in Austria. Anyone else have the misprint of their frames and know the reason why?

tapered CAP grommets

ESP#1,

could you give a hint where to get the tapered iprestige MP CAP grommets?

i buy everything else from TW, but need a life-long supply of tapered CAP grommets.. mine are sc****d on most racquets already.

thanks

I noticed that string spacing misprint on one of mine also. Kinda' funny to have this great racquet and then they don't have the string spacing correctly printed on the frame.

tennis racket myth?

"Q. I've been told that after a few years of regular use, a tennis racquet loses its power and feel, and should be replaced. Is this true, or is it a myth perpetrated by the racquet manufacturers?

A. The racquet can start to feel “dead” depending on string tension and how much you play and restring. With the new materials, it shouldn't be too often, but I am not a racquet science person. Try Nate Ferguson at Priority 1. He was Pete Sampras’ personal racquet technician, and now Tim Henman, Federer, Lleyton Hewitt and Andy Roddick, among others, are his clients."

Who freaking cares! It's not like you are making a living playing tennis. I play with PT280 made in the 80's or 90's (am i right or wrong on this? :)) and I don't feel jack about racquet fatigue.

Some of them are deeply scr aped at the head!

And yes, I take my tennis seriously, compete toughly, and at the same time, having loads of fun. I'm no gear junkie! Just go out there and hit! jeez!

I think it's technically true, in the sense that graphite has a lifespan based on flex cycles. But practically? I assume a pro can tell the difference between a new stick and one that's been used steadily for a year or two. But can you or I? Doubt it. For one thing, we don't hit as hard, or for as many hours a week, as a pro. For another, we don't have the appreciation of racquet feel that comes from all those hours of hitting, year after year.

Put another way, my PS 85, used for 18 years, may have felt just a touch softer/less crisp when I shelved it, but not so much that it jumped out at me. Or here's a test: I hit a new nCode 6.1 95 recently alongside my well worn one, same string setup. No perceptible difference. If you're talking about new unstrung or nice condition used racquets that are made in the 90's, IMO shouldn't make any significant difference; the graphite will be fine, maybe the resin will deteriorate a tiny bit after a quarter century.

Relax bro, the dude just ask a question, if you didnt like it you didnt have to respond, it wasnt like the question was directed towards you bro, i mean why you in the racquet threads getting worked up about people asking questions about racquets?
