Chung's got a spot in this year's Wimbledon qualifying round, I think (maybe don't have to qualify? not sure).
Not sure about French Open.
If Chung does very well at Wimbledon, he might become the best teeanager but
may take hard court season.

Hyeon Chung has a very impressive backhand. It's already one of the best backhands in the world.

Agreed, the backhand is elite. Just needs a little work on the serve and forehand. But he is mopping up the challengers. Chung and Coric remind me of Djokovic/Murray when they were coming up.

Rublev is a bit of a headcase, and needs to keep improving the serve. But man, he has unbelievable groundies! He'll easily join Coric, Chung, Kokki, and Zverev in the top 100 in the next few months. Exciting group, these 5. And Kyrgios too obviouslyedit: Whats up with this result: Donaldson def. Chung 0,1 in RG quallies? I guess he's been flying under the radar a bit with Tiafoe's recent success.

Chung played on Sunday, flew who knows how many hours from Seoul to Paris, and then played today (Tuesday). Him losing, especially to another promising player in Donaldson, is understandable and acceptable. Chung losing 0 and 1 when he's trying to make his first Grand Slam appearance is not acceptable however.
I wonder if Chung's decision to play nowhere near Paris last week, at a hard court event no less, was a smart decision. Hindsight is 20/20, but he might have been better served taking last week off, or at least playing a clay court event closer to Paris.

On the flip side of the Chung/Donaldson matchup, Donaldson's dominant win against a hot player ranked higher than him, even if his opponent was likely very tired from playing and flying, was very impressive. I hope he can win two more matches and make the main draw.

18-year-old Quentin Halys of France got a nice break in Nice...lost in qualies but assumed the #1-seed slot when Simon withdrew very late. Playing Duckworth right now...lost a first set TB but on serve in set 2 in a 2nd round match. Plays Coric if he wins.

Seems like a tried and true formula. But he also is the youngest player EVER to get ATP points. Is undefeated on the ITF juniors tour this year, as well as beating Guccione. Unlike the kid you found on youtube, who has no legit results or ranking as far as we know.

stringertom, what did you think of Halys? I haven't seen him since he fell apart vs Jasika at the junior USO.
That tells how un-experienced Chung's team is on ATP tour.
They probably even haven't played at slam.
I suspected something like this looking at the way Chung enters French Open in so much hurried fashion.

He was the luckiest of Lucky Losers this week...got a 1R bye in qualies, won one match and gave a walkover in the final round to Groth, then got the #1-seed slot in main draw when Simon pulled out late. The unlucky part...he drew Duckworth and lost to him again after a loss last week to the Australian in Bordeaux.
He's been OK at Futures level (2 tourney wins and a couple of finals). Big serving on indoor HCs and carpet. Ground game needs some steadying. He's top 100 by '16.

You know, and I know, that at that age physique plays a huge part. Do we really need to recount the number of teenagers who never amounted to anything despite blowing their peers away? I am in no way begrudging this kid his success. I am only saying he's a bi-product of the homogenization. The kid I found has a technically appealing game and a freedom to his striking that I felt was worth sharing. Whether or not he makes something out of it remains to be seen, of course, but I doubt the difference is as big as you made it out to be.

He has 5-set experience but lost a tough one in Melbourne to Soeda, from a 2-1 sets lead. Does he have the endurance for five on clay? That would be my question. Definitely my third choice after Kokki and Coric.

Yes. Very cushy draw for Kokki. The seed in there is Tomic, who seems incapable of winning on clay no matter the opponent. Would like to see him make the 3rd round to face Novak

The two wins I expected happened today, both Coric and Kokki winning in four. Borna was fed a bagel by Querrey along the way, while Kokki struggled a bit early vs Basilvashivi but got it done.
The going is not easy for either in 2R...seeds Tomic and Robredo await. I like Kokki's chances a bit more vs Tomic. While Tommy is not having a great year (now 4-3 on Euroclay after a 2-3 swing in S. America), he is a tough and crafty opponent for any teenager. Coric will need more steadiness to prevail.

Halys will have a bright future...quite credible performance vs Nadal, easily avoiding bakery products with his already polished techniques on both the serve and ground game.
Ymer seems to be a great ball striker but when it comes to strategy, he plays it like a typical teenager (yet).

Researching Hamou, I saw Khachanov's name and was reminded how much was expected of him back a couple of years. He's still doing a mix of Futures and Challengers and sits at #227 right now, just a baker's dozen spots below his best. He just turned 19 a week ago Wednesday. Huge serve IIRC.

The grass season is tough to call if we'll have a breakout like last year's run from Kyrgios as a 19-year-old. Chung and Coric look like non-factors. I like Kokki to be the best of the crop but he may not be as comfortable on the faster surface as Nick. Maybe Zverev can muster a run too. I haven't seen any draws from the Challenger lead up tourneys or the Wimby qualies list. Perhaps, Jared Donaldson can recreate Kyrgios' 2014 path to glory.

Chung must have inexperienced team. Did a silly mistake to forget to apply for French Open and then hurried to get WC and flew to RG a day before a qualy. Then
knocked out of 1st round still with jet lag and flew back to Korea. Then flew back to Germany only a few days left to adjust on grass.
