Before 2017, the appeal of Federer was that his success came despite his awful backhand that was bullied and could usually barely hit top spin shots (and was pretty damn awful at it when he tried). He represented the sacrifice for aesthetics among utilitarian modern efficiency (two handers). And when he did manage to hit a good backhand, it was ten times better than today because we knew how precarious things were. His success was so great because he had such a weakness.
What do we have now? Federer with a bigger racket ball bashing like anyone else? This is disgusting!
Andy Murray is left as the only thinking man's tennis player, the guy that refuses to hit winners and instead toys with his opponents.
