Either in the forefront or in the back of our minds, we know that the era of the Big 3/Big 4 is coming to an end. Federer is retired, Murray is diminished, and this is likely the last year Nadal will contend at majors. This is the year that will likely determine who will finish first in the slam race, and in so doing, likely be the slam leader for a long, long time. If you believe in the title of GOAT, this may also be the year to finish that debate, at least between Nadal and Djokovic. So it's not surprising that fanbases are heated up.

But that’s no reason to troll or insult one another. That’s no reason to accuse players of faking their injuries. We are all fans of tennis, and the sport is bigger than any single player. We are a community that lives, loves, and breathes tennis. So please stop the anger, the hate, and the pettiness, and respect one another. Regardless of who comes out on top, Nadal and Djokovic are easily two of the greatest tennis players ever with one of the greatest sports rivalries ever. It does a disservice to both when you put one or the other down because they have both lost plenty of times to the other. Just remember, the more one side escalates, the more the other side will want to escalate. It’s time to de-escalate. Show some basic human decency. Stop the nastiness. Please cut it out.

Wait, but why?

Works in the interest of the forum when we all escalate. More user engagement/ more DAU/ more growth.

It’s anyways about to end in a year or 2. We all can wait before the big lull on this forum arrives

We are all fans of tennis.
Actually this is spectacularly untrue. The majority of people here simply live vicariously through one player. The moment their idol retires, they'll never watch another match. Just yesterday two posters had to be corrected in thinking Laver was right-handed and that Sampras had a two-handed BH.

So no, most people on TTW are not tennis fans.

The current issue between Nadal fans and Djokovic fans have less to do with GOAT debate and more to do with other issue.

-See, there have been plenty of fan wars among Big 3 fanbases in the past and most used to troll each other .
Whenever one player among Big 3 lost a slam final or an important match , he and his fanbase was trolled to eternity for 1 or 2 days .
That is the point .
The trolling happened for 1 or 2 days and the trolling was actually based on tennis results .

-But , Before the start of Australian Open 2022 , The issue of Djokovic's Deportation started and he was thrown into detention Center.
So, the trolling ,demonising and heckling of Djokovic started from the day he landed in Australia and continued for more than a week until he was finally Deported .
As Federer was absent , his fanbase wasn't emotionally invested and Nadal's fanbase got into the driver seat when it came to trolling Djokovic .

-The constant demonisation of Djokovic was done by Entire TV media of Anglo Australia and Western media ofcourse . And , Djokovic fanbase on TTW was heckled and trolled with every new report that was coming out of Western media .
Hundreds of News articles were posted daily to troll Djokovic fanbase.
This continued for around 10 days.

-The trolling during Court case hearings also was abnormal .
No other Big 3 player or his Fanbase had to endure this much trolling or hecking in their entire career .

-Nadal's comments / Jamie murray /some Aussie players about Djokovic and toni Nadal's comment on Djokovic when Djokovic was being interrogated by Police and was in detention added fuel to the fire .
It helped in creating anti Djokovic discourse in the News and social media .
Only Krgiois was an exception during that time .

After Nadal won the tournament , heckling and trolling of Djokovic remained the same from that fanbase .

-So , Trolling ,demonising and heckling of Djokovic fanbase happened for 20-25 days on a trot .
This has never happened before .
Worst Period on TTW .

Asking Fanbases to cool it down is not going to work anymore .
Djokovic fanbase have seen the worst and not just survived but Thrived ,anyways .

-Ofcourse , Decent people will engage in respectful conversations . Good wishes to them . (y)

Thanks for this elongated not-so-required explanation. But what's the fuss with a little trolling, I still don't get.

Its a beautiful day and the moon baller is out of the hard court tournament that he vultured last year. Normalcy has been restored.

Funny how you don't mention the cockiness of Djokovic fans in 2021 prior to all that, when it was 20-19 and 20-20. They got brought down to Earth with a thud when the events of 12 months ago happened, yet saw Djokovic as a wronged victim rather than an anti-vaxxer who refused to get vaccinated and who also refused to stay away on anti-vax principle. After Wimbledon, they were baying for blood again.

An individual Personal choice of refusing to take Cov1d vaccine is better than being Ally of Bill gates and promoting vaccines to millions without proper trials and being a 'Yes Man' to the Billionaire Medical industry Businessmen lol

All the cockiness of avoiding Djokovic on Hardcourt Slam AO 2022 and arrogance during Deportation gate got the right answer today in the Second round itself of Australian Open 2023 . :D

A vaccine to protect us all in a global pandemic. The rules were known beforehand, months before the 2022 Australian Open, get vaccinated and play or stay away on anti-vax principle. Djokovic tried to play unvaccinated, and we still don't know 100% who did what at that time.

Let us say for your purpose that , Djokovic deservedly got deported from Australian Open 2022 as he didn't get vaccinated .

But that still doesn't give Nadal fans the license to Mock, troll and demonise Djokovic and his fanbase for 20-25 days straight on TTW.
Now if Nadal fans get back the answer to their actions , so be it .

A lot of that happened because of the 2021 cockiness, sticking the boot in post 2021 French Open. The megalomania was off the charts. But also, Djokovic was very, very wrong with his actions 12-14 months ago.

So you agree to the fact that Djokovic fans were extensively celebrating Novaks Historical season in 2021 where he was on a 27 match slam stream and came 1 win away from winning Calender Year Grandslam .
While , Nadal fans were extensively celebrating Demonising ,trolling and deportation of Djokovic from Australian Open 2022 .
/End .

Of course very well said! You are not the only person expressing these sentiments, everyone is noticing.
Whats depressing is many here are saying they actually like the sh1tposting, the nonsensical endless BS trolling. Arguing it's acceptable, reasonable even ! LOL! These people are whack jobs !
What's heartening is many more are say it debases the place badly. People say this place could be better.
I have pointed fingers at a certain fan base that actively wants this bollocks.
Well fine, but this place and everyone in it is the worse for it.
And people who support this endless, silly, pathetic, immature and toxic trolling are in the minority.
And Yes, I'm guilty of it too ! You can't avoid being drawn into this toxic swirling excremetal vortex.
You ********* are something else - leave this place for and start your own Sh1tpost "fan" board somewhere else - you are not welcome here !

A valiant attempt, OP, but asking trolls to stop trolling and asking mean folk to stop being mean is useless. Unfortunately, life isn't set in the Naruto universe where you can talk all kinds of people into being better.

I think you might be mistaken about that. Most people somehow found their way onto this forum and stay in here because they find it entertaining and not because of some higher purpose related to tennis as a sport. It is almost addictive in that sense like all forms of social media to live in a virtual community online that might be more interesting than the real world. So, they will post/like, start new threads on what they think is entertaining and others will respond accordingly.

While the repetitive topics like hypothetical matches, weak eras, who is the GOAT etc. might sometimes get tiresome, it is nice to have a lot of new threads every week as opposed to the alternative. Sometimes, this board is dead in between tournaments when no one gives a damn enough to post often or to start new threads.

If you find some posters plain ignorant, rude, devoid of anything entertaining/intelligent to say or too devoted comically to one player, you can always put them on ignore. The same goes for threads that are barely worth opening when you read the title. The good thing about putting people on ignore is that you don’t see any threads they open also and generally those will be the posters who start many threads on the most inane topics related to players they like or hate.

It’s a common belief that Nadal emphasizes injuries when he loses. Doesn’t mean he’s a bad man, father, husband, etc. - just an opinion and one that many hold. Doesn’t make us lack basic human decency.

No! Both tiers of government agreed on a rule to allow unvaccinated players in if they met exemption criteria. Novak and several others had a legal visa. And then the Feds did a backflip.

No reason to be heated up really. Its a forgone conclusion that not only will Djokovic get the slam record but SHATTER it . Nadal blew too many slams earlier on. Multiple AO's blown, Multiple Wimbledons destroyed. That decided the outcome of this race. Much like how Fed blew too many slams to Nadal/Nole. You just can't blow that many "gimme matches" and expect to keep records in tact. The records basically come down to missed opportunities.

The inevitability is precisely the reason people do become heated up. They want to find any reason to delegitimize Novak's rise to the top, such as blaming him for last year's scandal.

I guess I just don't find trolling threads entertaining and there are too many of those these days. It's not that I think people should be banned. I'm just expressing how depressing it is to see how people revel in viciousness.

I have some on ignore, but the problem for me is that some people who troll are also pretty knowledgeable about tennis and I like to hear their analysis whether I agree with them or not.

Okay. I guess pettiness wins.

Bit of so called pettiness is Ok IMO

Remember we dont make a penny or win anything by discussing these rich men who swing their racquets for a career, neither are these rich men doing anything to prevent global warming or do anything that is important for the planet, so if we fans acts a bit petty then it is ok. These players play for the fans, fans make them rich, so it is fine I think so. Fanwars are fine.
