Thiem would have slaughtered Rafa

When Novak plays in unfavorable conditions for him, like Rafa did tonight, let me know.

I distinctly remember Novak complaining non-stop about the wind in his loss to Thiem last year, while Nadal just dealt with the fact that the conditions sucked and he wouldn't be able to play his best, like tonight. Like last year, Nadal played through the conditions and won. That's what matters.

The wind was nothing like that hurricane last year. It's like 12 mph. Lol. I give it to Rafa for being the better wind player but I have no idea what that has to do with the now.

Don't think Nadal will have many problems with the homeless man's Ferrer. Nor would he have had many problems with the guy homeless man's Ferrer just beat.
Stop watching tennis if it's so awful. You don't like a single player not born in the mesozoic era and hate modern style rally tennis so just stop. It's so annoying to hear you **** on everyone and everything constantly. Schwartzman has been really good and a blast to watch and doesn't deserve the disrespect.

Yea but he made a lot of errors too. I don't think he was hitting much harder Khachanov yesterday, who wasn't even hitting as hard as Djokovic according to Tennis Channel, but they both had 31 winners.
Dude, Sinner was hitting harder today than anyone in the event. They kept saying so. FH was 85 mph average and BH was 76 mph.
Find anyone hitting harder

I never said the wind was bad this year. I said tonights match was bad conditions for Nadal's game, and he had to be gritty and play through it (like last year, though wind was a different issue).

You've seen my other post where I explained this and I know you are not dumb, so please stop playing dumb.LOL!

Thiem hits his forehand that speed year in and year out and hits hits backhand harder. Thiem hits the ball harder than anyone on the forehand side besides I think Jack Sock.

I don't watch much tennis anymore besides quick highlights or if I happen to stumble on it on TV, so wish granted. You can stop the hissy fit now. There was plenty of "modern style rallies" in the early/mid 10s era, which I watched religiously, even if you think before then wasn't modern.

I'm not disrespecting Diego, whose mentality I greatly admire, I'm disrespecting the people who disrespect people like Ferrer to prop up this garbage era. And yes, Diego is a significantly worse version of Ferrer. That's not disrespecting Diego, it's appreciating that Ferrer could have accomplished significantly more if he played today.

Did they play under the roof? If so, how is that bad conditions? There would be no wind with the roof and no sun. I know he doesn't prefer playing indoors but...I don't see how that is equal to playing in 40-50 mph gusts.

Funny that you say I'm having a hissy fit when all you do on here is whine. You could've said "poor-mans Ferrer" and that wouldn't have been disrespectful. Diego deserves nothing but respect because like Ferrer he's squeezing out every last drop of his talent to produce his best tennis and it's been a pleasure to watch.

Alright, I'll consult with you next time re. specific wording. Got the memo. Exaggerating for effect on the internet, can't say I've ever seen it.

Lol so if I say Roddick was a weak era scrub don't worry I'm just exaggerating for effect. Not disrespectful to Roddick at all. Also, Diego has been quite good in Rome/RG (I assume you haven't watched) and is not league's behind Ferrer anyway.

Rafa made a point after the match that it was very cold and he thought the conditions were unsafe to play in.

The guy himself said the conditions were bad for him. He soldiered through it and won. Then he told the press that those conditions were not good for playing.

Sure go ahead and say that (if you haven't already), what do I care. I never said Diego was a scrub anyways, saying Roddick is a significantly worse player than Becker or something isn't disrespectful to Roddick.

Thiem would've lost. I think it's now a given that he's not a big-match player. I thought (well, hoped) not having a slam title was the issue, and that the USO win (no matter how ugly) would solve it. But no, he's simply not a big-match player.

Yeah, Zverev choked that match away, Thiem was there for the taking.

I totally disagree with the OP - I think Thiem looked worn out. Pretty sure he would have lost in 3 sets to Rafa, particularly if he kept up that slice. I'm not saying he can't beat Rafa, because obviously he can (and has!), but he wasn't gonna do it this time.

Nadal enters the court very anxious. As if he doubted himself.
If the Spaniard enters fully determined since the beginning, nobody can beat him and the Roland Garros 2020 title will be his.

If Thiem stays healthy for 2-3 years I can see him winning 3-5 Slams. His improvements in forehand, Slice, all court game getting overlooked lately.

Thiem hits those slices a lot more these days and even hits them very well, but the problem with his slice is that it doesn't look like he knows how or why he's hitting them.

As if he knows he should hit slices but doesn't know when or where to hit them so he's just hitting them all over the place hoping something will happen.

Additionally that slice seemed to betray a lack of confidence in his TS BH.. He was sometimes slicing his pass with Diego up at net. I mean that's Graf like man. Unless you can hit some vicious slice that spins away from the player and just kisses the line (Fed does that sometimes), you can't be slicing your pass in the modern game. And this was the guy the Never Nadalovics told us would win RG this year. Hmmm...

Thiem was just 2 points away from a 4 sets win.

In this game, it's winning points in the right moment that counts.

He should have found a way, he was the better player, but couldn't.

He just has not enough security in his game against the top players.

Good point about the +16. Valid stat.
My point his speed of shot. Sinner was smacking that ball big time. Maybe Thiem was hitting harder but they said Sinner has the highest average speeds.
Sinner is indeed the most gifted in terms of effortless power I have ever seen

I didn't catch the whole match, but when I tuned in at set 4, the commentators were saying Schwartzmann was the better player through the first 4 sets. He was up 5-4 in the majority of the sets I believe, and choked away a couple of them.

It's the opposite: in the first 2 sets, it's Thiem who always broke first and Diego was catching up. He was very fortunate to win that first tie break.

If Thiem had been more rested, he would have won this in 3.

Brave prediction when both are steamrolling the field. Actually both not even play close SETS. Apart from Nadal’s first set yesterday none of their 27 sets played at this tournament reached 5-5. I wouldn’t be surprised if none of them drops a set before the final.

They will dominate tennis for another few years. And I have a feeling that Federer will also win at least one more Slam.

Thiem would have been dead for the match with Rafa, he only stands a chance anyway now that Rafa looks like a shadow of himself.
