With his 2018 Australian Open, Federer is assured of extended this streak of always reaching at least one Grand Slam semifinal in the last 4 Grand Slams from 2003 Wimbledon to 2019 Australian Open. This is a span of 63 Grand Slams.

This achievement is insane when you compare it to his rivals:

Djokovic - 2007 French Open to 2017 US Open - a span of 43 Grand Slams

Sampras - 1992 Wimbledon to 2002 US Open - a span of 42 Grand Slams.

Nadal - 2005 French Open to 2015 French Open - a span of 41 Grand Slams.

Here's what the insane achievement as Roddick pointed out after the AO final. 10% of all slam finals contested in the Open Era in men's tennis have been won by Roger Federer.

Let that sink in.

Didn't you write about this weird, homemade statistic once before? No one understood its alleged importance then either.

Djokovic last semi was 2016 US open...

I heard that same stat. Federer's slam title count accounts for 10% of all slam titles won in the last 50 years. If a player's slam count accounted for 10% of all titles in the past 10 years(4 slam titles), then he'd be a slam dunk for the Hall of Fame.

Federer's slam count got me thinking. He's actually the combination of two great careers put together.

Let's look at Federer vs McEnroe and Borg's career put together.

Here's what we get:

Borg:
656-129 overall
106-37 vs top 10
11 slam titles, 5 Wimby, 6 French
109 weeks at #1

McEnroe:
876-201 overall
105-83 vs top 10
3 Wimby, 4 USO
170 weeks at #1

Federer
1179-268 overall
213-108 vs top 10
6 AO, 1 FO, 8 Wimby, 5 USO

------------------------------Borg+McEnroe-------------------------------Federer
AO titles------------------------ 0 ----------------------------------------------6
FO titles-------------------------6-----------------------------------------------1
Wimbledon titles---------------8-----------------------------------------------8
USO titles-----------------------4-----------------------------------------------5
Total slam titles--------------18----------------------------------------------20

W-L record---------------1532-330, .827----------------------------------1179-268, .815
Vs top 10------------------211-110, .657-----------------------------------213-108, .664
weeks at #1-------------------279-----------------------------------------------302

Borg and McEnroe have more total wins. But Federer is slightly ahead in win vs the top 10, weeks at #1, and slam titles.

Borg retired at 25 to have coke parties and bang Charlie's Angels.
