To be fair, amor y paz was only turning 19 when peak fedr won 3 slams in '06. He certainly was to be feared just two years later and absolutely dreaded in two years' more time.

As for the OP, I remembered that rally as being much better than I now think it was having watched it again after a four-year gap. Nadal's slicing all the time, the ball's bouncing really high, and it's just not possible to penetrate through the court. Far too defensive a rally for my taste.

Remember seeing this rally live. It was sick. Maybe not the best shots we have seen throughout the rally but the tention and the fact that these two were going at it made it so good, and also it was a CRUCIAL BP. Incredible defence by djokovic being able to return so much at the end and break him down.

The greatest break of serve can't be a break against Djoker since Novak has never had a big serve. It's totally absurd and shows no depth of understanding of even recent tennis history. Breaking Pete Sampras or Goran in a 500 event is a greater feat than breaking Djoker's serve in a slam final. Try breaking Becker's serve on carpet. Breaking anyone's serve on a medium-paced HC like the USO is child's play comparing to getting your racket on a Pete, Stich or Becker serve on grass.

"Prime", "Peak" "Mono" 'back" all these are inventions to excuse Fed losses. You are prime when you win wimby without dropping a set. Fed has not been able to compete with Djokovic and Nadal. He is good for Roddicks and Hewitts only.

Nadal fans were heartbroken, no?
The 08 win by Novak was for sure against prime fed. But most would say his prime ended somewhere in 2010 ... fed's prime was 04-10 roughly, djokovic was 2011-2016. Both have beat each other outside their primes, but the closest to prime level playing each other was prob their matches in 2010-2011 which were close, very competitive, drama filled, and high quality.
