Tsitsipas channels his inner Gulbis and insults his opponent following Rotterdam match

Tstisipas was the 3rd seed at the Rotterdam Open and had a decent shot at making the top 10 with a good run
but instead managed to blow his chance and lose in 3 sets to a player who hadn't won a set this year

This is what he had to say after the loss..

Quite similar to Gulbis who a few years ago lost to Nadal and said

"I thought I was the better player in the match and also in the second and third sets but he is the champion. I lost against him in Indian Wells when I also thought I played better than him.

He comes up with very solid play on the important points. He didn't do anything special. I made the mistakes but you have to beat the guy. He doesn't give away anything for free.

Nothing can be opened in your first post. That's why I asked you to tell us what he said. Now, I can see that twitter thingy in post#7.

Other people on the thread were able to read it. Perhaps its your browser or something?

Here's what he said

“That’s how he always plays. He waits for your mistakes. He stands 8 meters behind the baseline. He tries to pass you. I lost to myself today. I didn’t lose to him."
“He didn’t do anything on court. Just put the ball inside the court. All by my mistakes. He played very simple tennis. Nothing crazy. Nothing special."
“It’s very weird playing this kind of players. You find no rhythm. It’s a weird vibe that they give to you. It feels like if you really want it badly you can beat them any time. At the same time it feels like they find a way to do some stuff you don’t expect."

No excuses. That's not very classy and it's actually rude. Stafanos is young but he should know better especially that he lost to Dzumhur before. You lose, you congratulate to your opponent and move on. Dzumhur is not exactly a nobody. He can play and he always tries hard. His hard work got him into top 50 and that's not a small thing. He is just one of the players that nobody is talking about and there are too many players like him on the tour. I've watched him many times.

This is my general problem with youngsters. Their attitude ... 'I play well and I'm motivated only when I play Djokovic, Federer or Nadal' or 'I play to win majors' ... something along that line.

Hope Tsitsipas isn't evolving into another Serena, who has a long and tedious history of not giving credit to her opponent (she's improved quite recently). Remember Tsitsipas made the hilarious comment after losing to Rafa at the AO, "I don't know how Federer has beaten him so many times?" Quite a gigantic ego to compare himself to Roger.

Tsit has beaten Federer

I remember Zverev saying something like this, just can't recall who he lost to. I didn't hold it against Sascha so it won't be fair to judge Tsitsipas' character based on this. Still, isn't he too easily caught up in basic negative emotions for someone who strives to appear serene and reflective? :cautious:

It's a matchup issue. He finds it difficult against Rafa whereas he's fine against Fed. Similar to Kyrgios who finds Andy the most difficult player to beat.

It’s because tsexi-pas was forced to wear clothes on court so he suffered from sub-optimal self-esteem.

Had the match been played in the locker room, different story.

pretty embarrassing loss tbh

dzhumhur is the definition of a rando commando on the ATP tour

gotta steamroll over players of his caliber if he wants to ever be anything close to ATG

He will now start to understand what ATP is all about.

As he becomes one of the targets.

1-3 h2h vs Dzumhur, that is bad. A journeyman whose game is zero threat to the top players.

Tsitsipas needs to beat players like that routinely before he starts making backhanded comments about Nadals game.

It's nothing to do with their browser. It's a blocked domain here on account of it being a SPAM hub for ****tily compiled rubbish edited together by the site's resident idiot Gatto Luigi. His thing is to grab disparate quotes and throw them together all out of time-context in a poorly written articles and then load them with keywords so people stumble across them.

Block me then, I don’t care if you think it’s garbage and it seems many others thought this was interesting enough to comment on instead of leaving it on 0 replies. Bye.

I think Tsit would have had trouble against prime Ferrer, if he struggles against Dzumar...

Whereas Fed's H2H against Ferrer is amazing...

This was reported on several other media outlets as well. So credible news.

I cannot believe why these guys talk so much smack - Tomic, Kyrgios, Tsitsipas, Coric.

Zverev seems the most well rounded and humble one.

If Zverev had made these comments they'd be five times more replies to this thread!

For some reason Borna "Djokovic" Coric and Tsitsipas seem to get away with it.

If the loss to Dzumhur of all people is shameful it makes what Tsitsipas is saying true. Tsitsipas is saying it's a bad loss...

Unfortunately, anyone paying close attention to him last year will recognize that this is a pattern with him. He's shown some ugly behavior on court that no one ever talks about either.

And idk if it's actually ego per se, but he does come across to me as very naive and lacking self-awareness, like he truly has no idea why that Roger/Rafa comment sounded ridiculous to us. But I also try to remind myself that he is a 20 year old millionaire and idk how well-adjusted I'd be in his situation either. Hopefully he'll grow and learn. Roger & Novak used to be a bit like that too after losses, but they've both changed a lot over time.

First the spat with Medvedev.

There was this ball boy incident last year which was widely covered.

At AO, he wondered how Roger beat Nadal so many times as though he should be able to emulate / compare against him.

Now this about Dzumhur.
