Tsitsipas comments on playing Medvedev - “It’s just boring”

Legend of Borg

so do we want interesting personalities in tennis or not?

cause the next gen are certainly delivering but instead of most people welcoming it it seems to have the opposite effect

they want to silence them, tell them to stop "whining" etc

if Sissipass went down the safe PC route "my opponent is really strong, too good, no? played my best tennis, etc" then he'd be branded as a sheep, no fire, no aggression, a CHUMP (basically a Goffin clone who kisses up etc.) but it seems like he's not willing to play nice

same with Zed, he's not afraid to call things out

don't get me started with Nick....

He could simply say "I am just not good enough to beat him right now, but I know that I can and eventually will. He just has a game that lulls you to sleep and he dictates from there. I don't enjoy playing him because he forces me to be less aggressive."

By saying he is boring he is essentially saying that he is not engaged and does not care enough to push through it.

Comes off as whining... because it is. If he won he would not have said it was boring.

I was waiting for an opportunity to use this Tobey Maguire meme. I guess this is as good of an opportunity as any.

Have you ever heard a player saying they aren’t good enough to beat them?
If they thought like that they wouldn’t be in pro tennis in the first place, because w that mentality they wouldn’t win matches.

Talk about getting inside an opponent’s head!
He said the same things about FAA, but he finally beat FAA. He will also beat Medvedev. Those 2 will dominate the sport for the next decade.
Don't forget Tsitsi is almost 3 years younger. What was Fed doing at 21 yrs old?

This is just classic Tsitsipas talk right after a loss. It just so happens to be Medvedev this time around. I think he really contemplates and thinks matches through afterwards, especially losses. He's got that persona about him as well. A bit of humility wouldn't hurt for sure, but he does go quite into detail which I like. He's also pretty spot on, regardless of whether he sounds salty or not, things that need changing, etc...

I agree, definitely interesting to hear something about the real mental thought processes of a tennis pro and not just some rehearsed PR stuff.

Med really seems to be in his head and while it is probably not smart to tell that publicly it is definitely interesting. Shows that even top 10 players are humans too

Fed is 0-0 against prime Medvedev. Medvedev's explosion came in the second half of 2019. Federer did not face the same player, and their next match won't be as easy for Roger. Not saying Roger can't defeat Med, but his older matches are not a good antecedent given the fact they all were against a less experienced Medvedev. Remember just in Shanghai Federer lost to Zverev and Medvedev destroyed Zverev in 2 sets and winning the last set 6-1.
If Medvedev doesn't win a slam next year, this "explosion" will have been for nothing.

Winning titles bigger than 250's.

Stef is also younger???

wow, now he looks more impressive IMO

hopefully does even bigger things in 2020

Med.... well we'll see how he carries himself when he comes off his high at some point in the next several weeks

And he had 3 all time goats to deal with?
He was beating a younger Sampras at 19. And Agassi too afterwards.

Federer nearly defeated Djokodal at almost 38 to win a slam, so he would definitely do better than Stefanos.

Heck, a 35+ year old Fed has had a very good track record against a Nadal who destroyed Tsitsipas.

It's safe to say this 3 GOATS stuff is overstated.

He wasn't beating Sampras on a regular basis. It was only 1 meeting that went to the distance.

And Federer didn't beat Djokovic (this nearly beating stuff gotta go) and Nadal is not 19. He started very early and probably has just as much mileage as Federer has at this age. And Wimbledon is his least favourite surface.

Funny how you guys continue to spin the age any way you see fit to suit your agenda.

This is where it has got to. "Oh, these poor babies, unlucky to deal with the 3 GOATS, even though they are a a decade+ younger than them."

And here I thought, Djokodal split all the slams this year and as you put it, a nearly 38 year old almost beat Djokodal. Nope, they are not dominating tennis.

Federer came damn near close, even if he lost. Tsitsi this year would have needed a miracle to even come this close.

And like I said, a 35+ year old Fed has been beating Nadal on a regular basis, so it's a bit embarrassing that a 20 year old got destroyed by that same Nadal.

Yes, Fed wasn't beating Sampras on a regular basis, but the fact is he DID beat him at Pete's best slam at only 19. He didn't get owned by an older Nadal like Tsitsipas did.

Enough with your 3 GOATS propaganda just to excuse Tsits's shortcomings (who are unrelated to the 3 GOATS anyway, as he is 3-3 in slams after AO this year).

But the guy I was responding to wanted "truth" and something different. This would be, while not taking shots and sounding like a whiner. Plus, he was and has not been good enough.

It doesn't change the fact that they are still past their primes and a strong generation of young players would expose them.

Djokovic nearly losing to a 38 year old proves that a strong young player would have beaten him.

It's funny how some of you guys are spinning around the idea that these young guns are some Federer-like talents but they are simply unlucky to be dealing with the 3 GOATS.

It needs to stop. Federer was so much better than these young players that it's not even funny.

Yes they did, but they are more vulnerable than ever.Their level is not that impressive.

That doesn't cut it when they both won all the slams this year. And at this age, they are likely to be slightly vulnerable so that's a given.

They have won all the slams this year because of the ineptitude of the young players.

But PETE did win his first slam at 19 whereas Federer was almost 22. I definitely find Pete's much greater than Federer especially in the way he won it by beating some good ol' folks. But I won't brag about it as you do with 'once upon a time when Federer somehow beat Sampras at Wimbledon' etc.. Nonsense.

Of course the 3 GOATS propaganda doesn't suit your agenda anymore but it would have if Fed was in a similar situation.

You can win a Slam even if you’re at around 70% of your level. You don’t necessarily have to be at your best to win a Slam, especially if you’ve won at least 16 of them. Case in point: AO 2006.

The problem is when players are routinely winning Slams below their peak level, which is what is happening now.

Fed would not be in a similar situation. He would make sure to send these GOATS packing ;)

The young players are just not good enough. Deal with it ;)

Tsitsipas is 3-3 in slams this year after AO. Are the 3 GOATS really to blame for that?

Novak was also called a whiner back in the days.
Look at him now.
It’s more like people in this threads are whiners. Tsitsipas playing his ass of on tour and done great. It’s less than a year since he won his first ATP title, 250 in Stockholm, I was there! Tsitsipas is awesome! I have a video of his speech, very touching and nice attitude. I could maybe post it to stop your whining?

Federer is even older than them.

You clearly have an anti-Fed agenda. And have literally 0 arguments.

All you have is 3 GOATS bla bla bla.

Who's blaming the 3 GOATs but one can't deny that that the field is top heavy with some Goats are still in their prime especially Djokovic. I mean they are called Goat for a reason.

You are pissed off because the young generation is not doing their 'job' and preventing them from winning anymore so to reserve Fed's goat status.

I’m not sure if I get your point. Federer is included in this list of three players as well. He too won AO 2018 well below his peak level.

Yeah, while you've presented seriously lethal argument putting all the burden on the young generation. And Fed played Sampras once and barely beat him and didn't win the Wimbledon that year. Not a nobel prize worthy accomplishment there.
